Carol Vorderman's Maths Factor v Tutor?

Hi, my 2 youngest (7 and 9) are recently subscribed to The Maths Factor from Carol Vorderman, but I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback on it?

My eldest needs support in maths (having lost confidence at her new school; old one was fine) and I chose this because it's cheaper than a Tutor (15.99 a month).

BUT, my concern is it's not helping with the 'here and now' ...what they are covering in school. A tutor, surely, would cover what they are working on now?

She's been sent almost 'back to basics' with the online assessment - I completely understand that knowing the basics is THE foundation of the rest of it...but there's such a mismatch I'm starting to wonder whether I'm making things worse, putting her off even more with 'all this maths' .

A tutor would be a lot of expense, but, I'd have to try accommodate it...and if it's better value for money etc.

I would definitely rather give money to a tutor than to Carol Vordeman and her empire. Tutors, if good, can inspire confidence and can tailor the sessions to what your child needs.

I looked at the Maths Factor and felt it was trying to appeal to parents who wanted a more traditional approach to Maths, think she just stick to alegbra too rather than covering the whole numeracy curriculum. It looked far too dull to keep my kids from voluntarily going back to it everyday, but I'm sure there will be some on here that love it.

I would either find a good Tutor or move over to Maths Whizz, your children will still start from a low assessment level but they will quickly accelerate through it, if they find it easy, as mine did and after 3 months my ds has improved his Maths age by 18 months, moved up a group and best of all actually enjoys Maths now.

hmmm...I'm going to check out Maths Whizz - thanks!

Also on the hunt for Tutors because it's a good point about paying them rather than a bigger 'empire' online.
