moving to new school

Hi I'm looking for some guidance on the rules/ etiquette of moving school. We have decided to move our eldest from the local state primary to a local independent school, for reasons of our own (some of which are to do with the school but not all). This would be for Sept. He has been at current school for 2 terms (since Jan). I am unclear what we have to tell the primary school about the reasons for our decision, and the process e.g. should current school agree to him going on a day visit to new school? They have tightened up on absences but this seems a legitimate reason to me.

I know some teachers post on here so would welcome any tips. I am planning to notify school in next week or so.

Thanks

Thanks I have a feeling they will ask why and I feel uncomfortable going into some of it although DH thinks we should give some feedback - but we live in a v small place, so it's complicated!

PS should this be in writing or can we just tell them?

I'd just tell them. If you are worried about telling them too much, especially with the small area consideration, maybe take DH with you or get him to do it.

Dont know about the move to independant school but when I moved my two last year (moving house) I told the school I was taking dd1 out for the day visit.

we did this just before xmas(ds1 started new school in jan).we were honest to old school and said that ds1 wasnt getting what he needed from them and that we werent happy.and that we were visiting another school.headteacher suddenly was ds1 best friend after how ever many years but we made the right decision.it was scary at the time,im easily swayed so almost gave up.ds1 is now a changed boy!hes happy and eager to learn-two things he has never been before!hes dyslexic and has behavioural needs and just wasnt getting the help he deserved.im waffling-again!

the new school will notify the old school btw when you have a visit-we were told they had too(although we said we'd already told them).
