Searching for a 100% cotton (or at least cotton rich) green gingham dresses for my primary school age daughters.

Marks and Spencer have them but they seem to be designed for - as my eldest put it - the "wider" child.

ASDA did have 60/40 cotton/polyester belted style dresses, however seem to have no more in green!

Everywhere else dresses are mostly or wholly polyester.

Kids casual clothes in cotton are very cheap, so why can one only seem to get school summer dresses in man-made fibres?

Help greatly appreciated if you can direct me to some decent dresses, either via high street or interweb!

My skinny 5 year old DD has this cotton M and S dress

My DD is below average height and weight (25th centile still for both) but an age 5 dress is a good fit.

It's not too wide but without being tight fitting. After all, if you want cotton because it's cooler, a loose fitting dress is going to be better than a tighter one, no? It looks very sweet on, and isn't too gape-y on the shoulders.

I do agree with you on the cotton, though. I wouldn't be seen/ smelled dead in polyester on a hot day - why must our young DDs?

My skinny but tall 5-year-old has the same dress as Annner's DD but in an age 7. She loves them as does her friend who wears identical ones. Both girls are tall and thin and the dresses fit well but aren't tight.

My dc have the M&S dresses, and dd1 is very slim indeed, and tall too so she needs a 12 year old's dress even though she is only 9. The dresses are roomy, but it does not matter too much because they fit well enough.

While I was on my long quest for summer dresses, I found that Sainsbury's were the worst that I saw for being broad. The M and S ones on the other hand have a nice full skirt but do not swamp at the shoulders.

My DD could have fitted into a Tu one twice over, side by side.

Have your DDs tried the M and S one one?

We also have the M&S one and it's lovely, my daughter certainly isn't a wider child. In fact quite a few of the reviews are bemoaning the slim fit.

Two years ago is was impossible to get a pure cotton dress from anywhere and we ordered some online (from some green/eco/organic place).

Last year, pure cotton came back into the shops.

I do like cotton but it does crease. Perhaps polycotton is a good compromise.
