The last thread seems to have disappeared so I thought I'd start a new one and see if anyone is still about!

Boy went back to school today, seemed to enjoy himself. Only one teacher missing due to the volcanic ash!

I think our photos were the sort with lots of little groups and then put together. Secretary says she will post proofs if they don't come tomorrow or Friday

I have been invigilating - had great drama yesterday with person being sick but luckily outside the hall.

mitochondria · 26/05/2010 21:56

Erk. Not sure there's a protocol for "what to do if someone voms on the exam paper".
I've been scribing this week as well, that's always fun - I haven't written so much in ages!

Oh oh oh - how lovely to find this thread!!!

We had the school trip last week. I was one of the Mummy helpers [proud]! It was chaotic but fun.

Next stop is the end of year play! The theme is Africa! DD has to wear a yellow t-shirt and felt red skirt. There are rumours on the school gate that both can be found in H&M - phew!

We finish in JUNE in Paris - so the first year of school is close to a memory!

NoahAndTheWhale · 26/05/2010 22:26

Am glad I haven't had to scribe - there were three people with broken arms (well one arm each) in yesterday's exam.

Acinonyx · 26/05/2010 22:28

I didn't like the group photos and didn't order any.

The school appears to have banded their books into the colour bands with their own stickers - as they use several different schemes. The most motivation I have seen from dd has been in the last week or so as she is starting to read bits of her beloved and adored rainbow bloody fairy books (aaaaahhhhh!). I must say, that the sooner she can read those for herself the better! Aranea - when she reads 'secretly' to herself she still reads aloud - I imagine the silent reading just evolves naturally later. Be interesting to know what you make of you ed-psych appt.

How lovely to be in Yorkshire And near York - even better double

It will indeed be a bit sad when reception ends and the other years are just - well - ordinary school years. Reception is a bit special.

treedelivery · 26/05/2010 22:41

I totally agree. They're the special babies when they are in foundation.

Aci - those colours will be the national literacy whatsits. Pink, red, er.....orange...

We have a national day coming up too. I have a hankering to put her in a sari. Not sure where I'll find one in this little corner of monochrome Yorkshire.

The big news is that by some fluke I am not working on the day of the the school sports day. I would have actually cried if I missed it.

NoahAndTheWhale · 27/05/2010 12:34

Got school photo proofs today Will definitely get class one; may get DD on her own. Not so sure on the one of her and DS together. Then will get one of DS's class and him on his own later as well.

mitochondria · 27/05/2010 20:50

I'm not sure when Sports Day is. I will probably miss it.

Next year, boy is going to be in a split class. Either Reception / Year 1 , or Year 1 / Year 2. They haven't told us which yet. If they do it simply on age he'll be in the latter, as he's in the more elderly half of the group.

I'm easy either way, and I think he will be too. Although if he is in Reception / Year 1 he'll be in the same class as his little brother, who starts in September.

NoahAndTheWhale · 27/05/2010 21:00

Did you say they were in a mixed nursery/reception class at the moment? How has that been?

I am feeling glad DS and DD won't be in the same class at school - there were sone schools I looked at with a KS1 class so they would have been. Although I think they had been having some particularly unfriendly moments when I was thinking it

mitochondria · 27/05/2010 23:01

Yes, they have been - although because that's only a temporary thing they've shared space but kept their own teachers. And of course smaller boy only does four mornings a week - so I don't think they've actually interacted much.

They don't fight at school, apparently. They save it all up until they get home and then really let rip.

Acinonyx · 28/05/2010 19:47

I will be astonished if dd shows any enthusiasm for Sports Day.

There is some talk about split classes here but it's all very cloak and dagger. No idea what's going on.

treedelivery · 08/06/2010 12:56

How was half term everyone?

First day back for dd1 today. So of course she spent yesterday ill with an ear infection. have sent her as I think that most of her time off has been after holidays, I don't want to get in trouble! wrote a note saying please ring if she seems even slightly off, as she really was quite unwell yesterday.

Spent half term in London, whch was magic.

Checked her book bag on last nght and realised she had 2 books and about 30 words she was supposed to have been looking at. She normally has a book a week and about 10 words, so this was qute a step up. SHe went through them fine thank goodness. Feel a bit [blsuh] for not even making an effort to take them wth us on holiday. Oh well

lovingmy2 · 08/06/2010 21:32

Whoooooo. I know i'm late but can i join your thread. My DS is in reception 4.10 years. I am feeling so that his reception year is coming to an end. HE is still such a little baby in my eyes and still needs to play and socialise rather than sit at a table writing etc etc. Hey ho.

He went back into school today and came home a little subdued and tired. Said he just missed me so much.

Had a lovely half term off and was sad to send him in today. We went to the zoo and had lots of park trips and playdates. Hated putting the uniform on him today and walking him to school.

On the plus side i went shopping for holiday clothes and his birthday pressies

MrsBrollyhook · 08/06/2010 22:19

lovingmy2 - I know what you mean about them still being babies. It's DD's birthday next week and she still seems so little. She however seems very excited about year 1. Although she loved half term, she was also very excited about going back today, very upbeat - suppose it's us who worry more about it all!

treedelivery · 08/06/2010 22:30

I'm gutted they won't be the special little ones anymore.

roundabout1 · 09/06/2010 10:05

tree - We didn't bother doing any reading or words over half term. Did them on sun night though & then on mon had a note in dd's book bag from the teacher suggesting I try & make some fun games up with the words in her word tin. Felt a bit bad then that I hadn't made more of an effort. Mind you dd always does really well when she does them with me but think she's not as brave to try if she's not sure on the word at school iykwim.

My dd is quite excited about going into yr 1 but I also will be so sad that she won't be one of the special little ones anymore, especially as she's the youngest in the class so to me is still very little & special.

Sports day next week & am currently 7 days overdue with no 2. Have been booked in for induction the day before sports day so really hope the baby arrives before then as dd isn't very keen on the whole sports day thing anyway, so would like to be there to offer encouragement.

gleegeekgleek · 09/06/2010 10:37

Are thee word tins words ones they are meant to spell or just read?

Not been given any new words here since Christmas for ds - he finished the first 60 reading but maybe he should have learned to spell them too?

LleytonsMummy · 09/06/2010 10:43

Can I join too waves I too have a LO in Reception I was in a way lucky as he was born early September so will be 6, 3 days after the start of year 1.
Bless him he has already moved schools . He spend till April at a tiny prep school and now he is in a 3 form intake state school and absolutely loves it. He has so many friends and comes home so much happier than he ever did so I'm glad we made the move early.
Sports day for us is early July ( I think ) Don't know how they will do it will so many children!
Just found out today they mix the children up for year one feel a little sad about that as he had to make all new friends after Easter and now again in September but I'm sure he tougher than I give him credit for.

treedelivery · 09/06/2010 14:47

Hello lleytonsMummy and lovingmy2, and other new people I missed.

Off on the school run

lovingmy2 · 10/06/2010 13:48

Well he scooted to school today happily on his new big boy scooter. It's a Ben 10 one (even though he has never watched it lol)but his little friends were most impressed by it. bless

On a he came home upset last night that a girl wouldn't let him play in the sand yesterday and pushed him when he had asked nicely. Luckily the teacher saw it and the girl go into trouble. DS is so tiny (the sallest in his class) and this girl is a giant. Wanted to keep him home and bake cakes instead of sending him lol.

How are your LO's at doing their reading. My DS is beginning to say that school books are too easy and boring and i am struggling to get hm to stay motivated once he's read it once. I am having to get him to read his own books once he as read the school book as its become such a battle.

LleytonsMummy · 10/06/2010 17:41

Hi lovingmy2 Poor little man my ds2 who is 2 is tiny so I'm going to be worried when he starts big school.
Ds is currently on blue band his last book was a playscript ORT5 . He isn't bored with them as such but I have to ask him to read to me as he isn't that keen. His old school being in a class of 5 meant he was listened to everyday but tbh we moved him cos 5 was just too tiny and now although the reading is no where near as good as that he is alot happier which I think at 5 is more important than the academic side

lovingmy2 · 10/06/2010 19:49

DS is quite able to read blue banded books (i am a teacher and brought him a couple home when i was last in school - currently on MAt Leave) and i think his interest would pick up but the school he is at insist on reading every single book in every band so is currently trawling through yellow band which is why i think he is a bit bored but never mind. He has had a good day today and went to the park with a few of his friends after school so has gone to bed a tired lad. No mention of giant girl today either

LleyonsMummy - it is such a worry when they are small. DS is also quite a quiet child so i panic about everything and probably too much. Just want him to be happy and have friends. He definately has though so i really shouldn't worry. lol. I'm sure you LO will be fine when he does start bog school x

treedelivery · 10/06/2010 21:41

at giant girl. But poor lamb, it's good the girl was seen as I think they struggle with injustice at this age, and they come by lots of it at school.

Mine is on red, they only started at Christ,as so I think she's dong well really. For a once a week listen and book change.

Dr Seuss have some lovely books. We are doing 'I am not going to read or write today' which is easy but fun.

simpson · 11/06/2010 20:32

Hello

I was on this thread before our Dcs started school when we were all frantically sewing name tags etc

Cannot beleive they are soon going to be in yr 1

DS is doing really well. He has made a couple of good friends, one in particular he is joined at the hip with

He is doing really well with his reading, just starting stage 3 and I am really proud of him considering he is the youngest in the year (Aug 31st at 11.37pm, should have kept my legs crossed a bit longer LOL) and it took him a while for it to "click" iyswim.

Is great to see this thread and see how everyone else LOs are doing

treedelivery · 11/06/2010 20:40

Hi simpson, I remember you!

have had to buy dd some trainers. Apparently they can't wear plimsoles outside. Eh? Oh well. Happily her feet have expanded, which I'm sure won't last, to an E fitting. So some £20 Clarks were bought. She has trainers already, but I'm not sending a £50 pair of eox traners to school! They were the only ones that fit her at the time. In the Whole Of North Yorkshire! I'm loving this Clarks thing where you order online and have them fitted in store. I got some in the sale.

I am not working on the day off sports day, or for the school bbq. Hurrah!! DH has been asked to man the flames. God help us!
