Hello,

Does anyone have any info or send their child to Little Ealing Primary School in London W5...

Is it a nice school? Are you happy with it? We are thinking of moving and we would be in the catchment area of this school.

Or what about other primaries in W5, I've heard of Fielding Primary School and Grange school...

Any info appreciated!!

A friends 3 children go there and they have always been very happy, except I think that there is no school uniform which hAS caused stress for her ( the mum!) from time to time.

I've heard good things about Little Ealing School and Fielding is very good too.

It's going to a three form entry school which will mean alot of building works over the next 18 months. Apart from that I have a friend who has her son there and she is reasonably happy. Nursery is apparently very good.

Just done a lot of research on this recently!

Little Ealing is considered a good school- although even with the extra reception year added it still wasn't able to fulfill it's catchment, so you'd need to be sure that you are comfortably within the catchment area! Fielding is always considered good by local parents, although it's now moved to 4 form entry, which will eventually make it one of the biggest primary schools in the country. It's basically a safe middle class option.
The Grange has recently been refurbished, and it's results are improving. It's a bt more of a mixed catchment. A friend who sends her son there is happy with it.

North Ealing is a very good school in Pittshanger W5- nice area to live, but not brilliant for transport. Again- be careful where you buy in the catchment.

You could also consider Hobbayne school- it's in Hanwell W7, which is only a mile away from Fielding, and the school is excellent (I have a few freinds who have recently moved to get their children into the school. You also get a bit more for your money house wise!)

Basically, Ealing is great in that it has some excellent primary schools. The only school to actively avoid is St. Johns in W13 (although even that is now out of special measures!)

Hi - we used the live in the fielding catchment and it is truly a great school. The parents care about their children's education, the headteacher gets results and the children are lovely. They have a very good PTA and the facilities/ground are well above average. It is rated outstanding and the results are very good. It is good to live nearby the school to ensure admission - closer you are the easier it is.

Little Ealing's catchment area did not used to be representative of who actually got offered a place. Unless you lived within a very close distance to the school, you would be on the waiting list. That should have improved slightly now it has a 3 form intake, but it was very bad up until recently (this academic year). After siblings in catchment, there used to be between 25 to 30 places left for over 100 applicants who were in catchment. Anyone outside could forget about it. If you were more than 150 metres from the school, you should be checking very thoroughly with anyone in the know. Do not trust the estate agents btw; they will sell houses that are technically in the catchment with that as a big selling point, when no-one has got in from the road for years! Certain roads are definites to get in, some are ok for the nearer ends, and some are decidedly dicey.
When checking with people, be very specific about where you are in the road. It does, and has in the past, made a difference. hth.

Grange is a fantastic school - and I think their recent OFSTED inspection will reflect that. The teachers are driven and inspired and do not sit on their laurels as they are able to do in more across-the-board middle class schools. Grange's Head is charismatic and adored by the kids. The children are polite, motivated and proud to be part of the school. Cannot recommend it highly enough

stoopstofolly I did my teaching practice at St John's in west Ealing...doesn't sound like its reputation has improved since the 90s!

Hello does anyone have any recent thoughts/comments on grange school ?

Havana2013 · 01/07/2013 21:29

Grange is very interesting school with huge diversity. There are some great kids and some very good teachers, with lots of good behaviour in most classes. It doesn't feel as big as it is. It's quite friendly, and has a relatively new headmaster who is steering it in the right direction. Definately worth considering. Some good school clubs too.

I know nothing about schools in Ealing. Only clicked on as used to work in Ealing many moons ago. Clicked onto St John's website as people being so rude about it. Vibrant home page and they are ofsteded as good.
Is it a snob thing? Sad if it is....
