Uniforms

I know that uniforms cannot be enforced at primary school, but can a child be excluded from an activity - a choir performance, for example - if they don't wear the uniform?

I ask because dc's school are changing their uniform in September. One dc is already there and has plenty of the old uniform stockpiled, probably enough to last him the two years until he goes to secondary.

If it's a state school then they are not supposto discriminate against a child with a different uniform. Is it very different to the one they wear now? If it's just a jumper then this shouldn't be too bad???

I'd have thought that plenty of children in years 5 & 6 will keep the old uniform and there'll be a few years when the two uniforms co-exist, before the old one gradually disappears.

PrettyCandles - does the school start with W?
If so, the change is being phased in from September, not completely changed - most children will still be in the old one for ages.

No, primary schools can't exclude children from activities for not wearing specific uniform items. IME (as a teacher), when uniforms have been phased in/changed if there is a special event that requires everyone to be dressed almost the same the teacher in charge will sneak into the uniform cupboard/store and borrow enough for those children who don't yet have one.
