Hi does anyone know if there is a comparison for Rigby Star books and ORT. Just about all schools seem to read ORT. My dd is reading Rigby Star and just wondered what the equivalent ORT was for what she is reading.
Ta!

Your daughter is very fortunate I wouldn't worry about ORT after all does it really matter as long as she is reading the books the school uses and making progress?

My dd1 reads Rigby Star too and they do seem to be more interesting than ORT. She's in reception and is on blue level. I thought they followed the national colour coded scheme order of :

pink
red
yellow
blue
green
orange
turquoise
purple
gold
white
lime green

I thought that this would make blue roughly ORT 4, but I may be wrong....

DS is bringing home various orange band books which include ORT 7 and 8

Never heard of Rigby Star sorry!

we have moved county, and the new school is rigby star I have found the kids find them def more interesting!

DD was on level 6 (I think) and is bringing home Orange/Turquoise Rigby books home. (shes Yr 1)

DS is was free reading (which was a PITA, as the books he brought home where pants haha) but is now bringing the white books home which is free reading, but interesting he is yr 3

No idea but DD is in reception, I have just checked her book she is reading purple book, phase 3 set 10.
No Idea what that means, but have told by the teacher that her reading is good.

At our school they seem to be graded a bit lower on the bookband than then colour rigby have given them. For example the red books seem to be at pink level.

If you want to look at selection of different reading schemes including ORT & Rigby Star, have a look at www.readingchest.co.uk. It's a children's book rental service for reading schemes - but has loads of info & advice without even subscribing. As a teacher I found it really useful when levelling books in our school library.

Cazzybabe · 21/03/2010 20:38

I've just subscribed to Reading Chest and am awaiting my first books. They have Rigby Star and loads of others to choose from at all reading levels. The advise on the site is really handy.

What a fab idea for those of us who don't have a library nearby.
Not sure I'll go ahead and subscribe as we've still got two big packs of ORT read at home we bought cheap on Book People or something but might do it soon.

Rigby Star's are great books and follow the Book Band method. They're good fun, with good illustrations and stories.

I believe that ORT level 10 is about Book Band purple?? You can check by looking at the ORT website and seeing how they equate with Book Bands.

We're now on lime level, so we've read a fair few (although my dd missed out everything between yellow and turquoise)

Thanks everyone. I think they are lovely books.
