Maths Extension work at home for Y3 7yo

My DS1 is 'G&T' for maths, and for some reason, while the school were very good in Y2 about sending home extension work for him, since he has been in Y3, he hasn't had any sent home. His Y3 teacher says she doesn't believe in 'extension work', and that he is achieving the top marks in the class so he doesn't need any.

Whilst I personally agree with her...my DS1 doesn't!! He keeps stealing his (Y8) cousin's maths text book and trying to complete the work. Tonight he came to me and showed me a sum he wanted to know if I could answer as he'd put the answer on the back of the paper. The sum was 10+x=15+y=30, so x=? & y=?. When I told him that x=20 & y=15, he showed me his answers (which were correct). And asked me for some harder sums like that. I asked if he had done this at school, and he said no, he saw sums like this in his cousin's maths book...

Is there some decent books or something that I could get for him to do that have simple algebra in? Bearing in mind that maths isn't my strongest subject .

DS1 is the kind of dc that creates poetry and crosswords for fun. He thinks the maths in school is easy and tbh, his homework is always stuff he could do 18 months ago or more.

BTW really am not trying to 'brag', just want to know where I can get some books he can do for fun at home as he enjoys doing maths problems even more than reading/playing with his toys. It's just what he likes to do, and I'm at a loss, I just want to get him some work books that he'd enjoy and find a fun challenge to do.

Try the nrich website - focusses on problem solving and broadening learning rather than pages of extending work.

wow he sounds great. He definitely needs stretching, he sounds like a natural. Have a look at the Bond books in WHSmiths, they do differing levels for all age ranges. This type of thing
