gym competition exclusion

I feel really annoyed that my six year old daughter has been excluded from a gynastics competition because she missed 1 gym session due to a gastric bug. She is the only child that hasnt been picked out of about 8 children and she is very aware that they will all be getting "real" medals.I just feel so sorry for her because she really enjoyed the club. Is the teacher wrong for excluding her? Do i have a right to complain? I think its the taking part that counts.

i forgot to mention that the gym club is an after school club at her local primary school.

I think at 6 she should have been included, especially as she missed a session through no fault of her own. I'd have a polite chat to the teacher about how disappointed she is and see if there's anything that can be done to include her.

I'd be pretty upset if my 6 y.o was excluded from something like that having missed only one session through no fault of her own.

Surely at that age the emphasis should be on taking part, not on how outstandingly well-rehearsed they are, especially when it is a school-based activity?

Yes, I wouldn't worry too much about your 'right to complain', but a polite word might do the trick. The teacher probably has a rule about 100% attendance, but under the circs...

How many sessions were there - I guess that one session out of three might be a genuine problem, but one out of 6 or 8 surely shouldn't be?
