Help/advise needed please. We are moving to Exeter & need to find out about local good/bad primary schools for our three children. We want to live in a nearby village (no more than about 5 miles out of Exeter). Please please can anyone recommend primary schools & villages for us.
Thank you very much.

I grew up in Kenton and went to the primary school there. It's a LOVELY village to live in with a real sense of community. The primary school was IMO fantastic although as it is a small village they do have mixed year classes so it would depend if you had any particular views on that.

If you don't want to be as far out as Kenton then there is Exminster although I can't give any opinions as to what it's like to live there/the school.

exminster school is well thought of, for secondary your in west exe catchment AFAIK and its a bus ride away. more a small town than a typical devon village, even has a tesco metro. bus service is OK, village hall quite active.

Broadclyst is other side of city , again primary is well thought of and the village has a secondary school. regular bus service to exeter.

Stoke cannon, very popular primary, no idea what village is like.

We considered moving to broadclyst area ( from Exeter) but ended up going further west, well away from Exeter secondary schools and tertiary college.

Our ds did not have a good experience of St Michaels in Heavitree (was badly bullied and took a long time to sort out). With hindsight I wish I had sent him to Ladysmith, I just wrongly assumed that a smaller school would automatically be a better environment.

Broadclyst school is really lovely. They are about to undergo a change of headmaster which always seems to impact upon a school in one direction or the other though.

Hello

Woodbury, Lympstone and Topsham have good reputations. I know parents who are happy with all of these. West Hill also gets very good results. Good luck with the move!

thank you all for your advice - on going on Sunday for good drive around.
Does anyone know anything about Sandford - the primary school, Queen Elizabeth College & the village itself?
thank you again

Hi, we live in Exwick in Exeter and we had problems with my 2 children in the catchment area school. I took them out and have now got them into a lovely rural school, Brampford Speke which is a 10 minute drive from Exeter where we live. There are only 54 pupils in the school and they have been fantastic with my children, who hated their other school. My children who are 4.5 & 6 are together in the same class. All the parents are very friendly and try to include you in everything that is going on in the school. I highly recommend this school. It also has a great Ofsted report.

sorry forgot to add that Brampford Speke is one of the schools in the catchment area for Queen Elizabeth School in Crediton which is excellent. My nieces and nephew go there and it is highly recommended.
