6 yr old moving schools - now or after Easter holidays?

DS (6, yr 1) is at a lovely primary school, sadly we found out last week that DD didn't get a place for September (and is so far down the list of siblings that didn't get a place that there's just no chance). DD was offered a place at another really nice school further away, which also had a yr1 place that we've managed to get for DS - I know it's harsh for him, but realistically the only way we could get them both at the same school

Anyway DS now knows he's moving and has actually been really good about it, although I know he's nervous (obviously). I was originally planning for him to finish out this term at his current school and then start at the new school after Easter, but his new teacher has suggested that he goes for a visit next week and then starts the following Monday so he has two weeks there to find his way around and get to know some names and it's all a bit more familiar after the holidays (and less time to worry about it all beforehand). Which all makes sense but then I don't want him to feel "cheated" out of his last couple of weeks at the current school.

DS says he's fine with going earlier, as long as he leaves current school before the end of term Mass, and in time to go on the Easter Egg hunt the new school are planning But then he is 6.

Has anyone got any experience of this and any thoughts on the best way to handle the timing? I'm tying myself in knots worrying about it all!!

Thanks PixieOnaLeaf - sensible advice. I feel terrible about it all tbh, but DS and DD have five years at primary school together, they are pretty close and I couldn't bear the thought of them being at separate schools (never mind the logistical headaches!)

Sometimes the admissions process can be brutal.
