H&S on school bus trips-toilet breaks

HappyMum4 · 07/03/2010 23:41

My children have just been to a safari park with their primary school, I have a child in recep., one in yr 1 & another in yr 2. They travelled 3 hours there, having been made to try on the loo before they left, and with no refreshments on the way. On the way back, another 3 hour trip, they weren't made to try, and were given snacks and drinks. Two reception kids needed the loo, so instead of scheduling a toilet break into the trip, they made them squat over a bucket. My daughter needed to go, but was too embarrassed to use the bucket, so she ended up soiling herself, and had to sit in it all the way home, and was completely distressed when she got back.
Where do we stand with this? Is this acceptable ?

op- not on atall.

Feenie · 08/03/2010 20:17

I don't believe that any school would allow a 3 hour trip without a stop, and I don't believe that a school would take the whole of KS1 on a day trip where they would travel for 6 hours. It's a load of rubbish.

activate · 08/03/2010 20:20

there is no way a british school would do this

pathetic

Goblinchild · 08/03/2010 20:23

Agree with Feenie. Tell you what OP, take your story to the press and when the evidence is out there with all the rules that your children's school have shattered and the bucket has its day in court, then I'll believe you.

GypsyMoth · 08/03/2010 21:01

well i did say !!

SE13Mummy · 08/03/2010 21:14

As a teacher I'm highly suspicious that any such trip was held for KS1 children. As a parent I'm wondering why, if it was arranged, any parent would sign a consent form allowing young children to spend the entire day on an inadequately equipped coach.

Hmm...

onepieceoflollipop · 08/03/2010 21:19

I fully with you SE13 Mummy.

In the circumstances described, I would not have signed the consent for my year one child to go on a journey that would take 6 hours. (irrespective of toilet/snack arrangments) This sounds a ridiculously long journey. Plus presumably further time cooped up in a vehicle within the actual safari park?

Or perhaps the dcs roamed free range amongst the lions and giraffes?

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 09/03/2010 08:21

no you didn't, tbb - unless you're spelling troll 'taollot'? hate all this bullshit troll-spotting, just say 'are you sure it was three hours each way?'

HappyMum4 · 09/03/2010 09:13

OMG, I had no idea such nasty people would appear on a site aimed towards parents especially mothers - Feenie, what is your problem? And activate - so nasty, so full of bitterness - why?

This actually took place, the children left at 8.30am, and arrived home at 6.30pm. I don't care if you believe that a school would do this or not, it DID happen, what kind of person would make this up? Why do people out there think that a mother just invented a story about her daughter soiling herself? What's wrong with you? You should be ashamed.

We are in the process of making a formal complaint, don't worry. I have a Parental Support Officer assigned to me, and will be advising me of the appropriate action to take.

This is the first time I have used this site, and thanks to some of the cranks that have posted such awful messages, it will certainly be my last. I was hoping for some genuine input from real parents, with normal emotions and feelings, but instead for some reason I don't understand, I have received some very unpleasant and unnecessary comments from some real "wierdos" as one person put it earlier.
I do NOT understand why you are being like that, pity the normal parents and mothers are not outnumbering the wierdos.

I did not sign a consent form knowing that my children would be on a bus for 3 hours there (no stop), 3 hours back (no stop. We were not told the bus would have no toilet, I did not expect the bus to be equipped in such a way, but all of us parents did completely expect a proper stop at services to be factored into the journey, which is why we thought it would take so long. Not one of us questioned whether they would or not, as we couldn't have believed for one moment that they wouldn't.
Schools, like people it seems, especially on this site, are not all good, people make bad decisions, wrong decisions.

The whole school was going on the trip, sometimes as a parent you sit there with the pen and the consent form, and you don't want to sign for exactly the reasons - it was a long way to go, the journey was very very long, but then I have to weigh up am I really going to make my kids the only ones who don't go, none of the other parents had issue big enough that stopped them signing the form, when they come back after the weekend, they are going to be talking about it, doing work about it, if I didn't send mine, what would they be able to contribute, how bad would my kids feel?

I repeat again, I cannot believe the hostility of so-called "parents". These are not simply opinions, this is personal, and very uncalled for.

erm,i think you'll find i can say what i like on a public forum Aitch!!! and i will!!

happymum.....do the other parents all have issues now too?? i would imagine the school will be inundated with complaints?

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 09/03/2010 09:43

yep, sure, you're absolutely entitled, go right ahead... but spell it correctly next time or, y'know, people will think that you're a moron.

GypsyMoth · 09/03/2010 09:47

nah...plenty of people make typos....happens here alot, doesnt make everyone a moron.....majority of mumsnet would be 'morons' if that were the case!

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 09/03/2010 10:02

it wasn't a typo, you wrote out a 'code' that spelled toallat...

anyhow, happymum, i hope you get some satisfaction from the school.

GypsyMoth · 09/03/2010 10:07

lol...capital letters in wrong places.....er,you haven't used caps in right places either!!! lol

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 09/03/2010 10:18

what on earth are you one about? i never capitalise, it's a waste of time on a forum. there's no r in your code, it's got bog all to do with caps.

GypsyMoth · 09/03/2010 10:26

lol....its not MY code...and its in there,lol

someone else made it up...there are other life lines out there....not my code, not the first letter of each word, even if i capitalised some, take it up with the poster if you dont approve....its used, alot of posters know its meaning

i wasnt the only one questioning the post either! you're the one who reduced yourself to name calling..

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 09/03/2010 10:27
Hmm
LocaBillmore188 · 15/09/2013 15:05

This is WRONG. Abusing their human rights. Don't just leave it go to the school and raise some hell. Don't let it slip whatsoever take it to the top. It's disgraceful! Hope they enjoyed the safari park anyway! XXX

Feenie · 15/09/2013 17:42

LocaBillmore - you must be aware this is a three year old thread - there is a warning now when you post on old threads.

If the OP did go in three years later, she would look even more nuts than she was in the first place.
