At what age do you stop reading to them at night?

We stopped reading to ds around 7 as dd was born. DD is now 6 1/2 and we used to read loads to her before bed but recently I'll read one chapter of what ever she is reading at the time. THis last week or so I've stopped reading to her altogether although she enjoys it still.

Frankly after 13 1/2 years of reading childrens books at nights I no longer want to read another child's book ever.

My friend has a ds who is nearly 8 and still reads to him each night and thinks I'm a bit mean.

Just wondering what age people generally stop?

Mine are dd1 7,dd2 4 and just turned dd3 2. 2 yr old goes to bed earliest so gets two books (the same noddy and night garden book) every night. Riveting stuff!

7 and 4 year old are luckily enough, content at the minute getting the same book read to them every night. It has 53 chapters so we I read a chapter a night. Then I listen to oldest read her school book.

Dd1's friend was staying over a couple of weeks ago and asked me if I still read to my daughters at night. I didn't want to embarrass my eldest daughter, but didn't want to lie. Was considering my answer when friend piped up that dd2 had told her I read to them every night, and she would really like it if I could also read to her when she went to bed with them. Awww.

Made me feel all like mother earth for a couple of minutes anyhow!
