Just had parents evening, which was really good. DS1 (yr3)has always enjoyed school and had good reports.
This time, teacher said his reading was "amazing". Now I'm thinking, does she really mean 'amazing'? Or just 'doing well'??
WOuld anyone be willing to share yr3 reading levels, as in 1abc, 2abc, 3abc, 4, 5 ect (SATS type levels).
Then I can decide whether I have a genius, or a normal good child !!!!!
It seems better asking on here, than asking round friends!!!
Thanks

As a former Year 3 teacher, I would advise you to go back and talk to the teacher. Yr3 reading levels are only based on the national average so will only tell you how your child is doing compared to the "average" child. Check if your child is understanding the text they are reading - I have heard 7 year olds reading from The Times but their comprehension of the article is poor. Check on their progress - is your child much further on than they were at the beginning of term? What material are they being given? Is your child off the school's reading scheme and on "free" reading (where they choose from the library). Ensure that your child is stretched by their reading material by giving them fiction and non-fiction to read and question them on their understanding of the text. Hope this helps?

Thanks Firway.
He got a level 4+ for reading and comprehension. I can't remember what he got before, but his sats results were all 3's I think.
It wouldn't surprise me, as he reads allsorts. He definately understands what he reads, and will ask if he doesn't.
I was wondering if it is common for yr 3's to get a 4 or not really.

We have 14 children in yr 3, 2 of them have a reading level of 4b, the rest range from 3a down to 2c. So level 4 is pretty special but not unique!

No idea of levels as DD;s school doesn't use them. However she can read pretty much anything with full comprehesion. Her school friends are varied There are others reading everything and anything too. The weaker childrem, such as the two with dyslexia are still on reading schemes. But most are free reading whatever they wish now,
