Am I the only parent who is Bah Humbug about the school soft toy comming to stay for the weekend?

I know I should be pleased, and find it cute etc, but, actually it was really inconvenient having the teddy to stay this week end.

Firsty, I had planned to spend the weekend doing housework while DC's played in the garden. Which wouldn't be very exciteing to write about would it, so we had to have a special trip out, to take photos of teddy doing fun things. Why couldn't' he come on the weekend we'd planned to go to Paris?

Bah Humbug.

Secondly, I really don't need to constantly be checking teddy hasn't been lost in Sainsburys or where ever.

Bah Humbug.

Thirdly, DS2 struggles to write, so it took ages for him to put down what he wanted to say, and we both started to get frustrated, to the point where DS1 offered to do it for him.

Bah Humbug.

Obviously I'm being very unreasonable, but suely there is someone else who hates having soft toys come to stay as much as I do.

It gets worse, I've just discovered he has a passport, now that could cause some competitive parenting!

Builde · 02/03/2010 19:10

I would burn it....weekends are too busy to have to worry about entertaining a soft toy.

And, if you're having a quiet one, what would you write?

I hate this kind of thing...enforced learning jollity. I prefer watching my children follow their own interests.

It's just another piece of work for parents to do.

Teachers - take note!

I discovered today that we are earmarked to have one of the two nursery bears this weekend

I do love to read the previous entries, but bloody hell what a faff the whole thing is... who seriously has the time??!!

QueenofDreams · 02/03/2010 19:44

DS isn't at school yet, so have never had this. However, Dniece had her nursery class bear a few months ago. When it went back to school it got to tell everyone about being in a car crash.

lovecheese · 02/03/2010 19:56

He he!! Have to confess that the bloody teddy (actually a cow) only went home with the SEN kids during infants, and even appeared on the class photos!!

Whereas Olivia, the Rainbows mascot, comes home about four times a year and is a much more chilled-out, multicultural, feng shui kind of gal xx

We had our Barnaby Bear brought home yesterday - it was filthy! I put it straight in the washing machine (well after deliberating for a moment or two whether it would make be look like an overly fussy mother), came out looking a lot better! Glad to read I'm not the only one who recoils in horror at such objects! Am now being persuaded by my DS to knit a jacket for it (previous children have provided items of clothing, now also washed of course!). Trouble is I can only knit squares and rectangles, so may not be the most stylish of garments

lovecheese · 02/03/2010 20:17

Could you knit him a scarf foggerty?

foggerty · 02/03/2010 20:27

That was my first idea, but someone (of a similar knitting ability) had already beaten me to it unfortunately.

Peaceflower · 03/03/2010 12:34

I have two dcs who have not wanted to bring home the class bear. BUT the funny thing is, isn't it odd how many are called Barnaby?

When I came across the first post to mention "Barnaby", I wondered if it was my school. Then more and more appeared......

strawberrykate · 06/03/2010 17:53

The sensible approach is not to read the book or your child's entry. What you don't know won't bother you. Most entries are a bit mad anyway.

we had preschool monkey on half term, amd will have preschool teddy for easter... its because boy is only at city preschool one day a week while most kids are their 3-5 days a week.
Village preschool don't seem to do owt like that thankfully.

kdk · 06/03/2010 21:18

Am currently giving houseroom to Paulie Penguin - got twins so have already had Bobbie Bear this year - wasn't so bad with that as we were going away for half-term though I had kittens about losing it ... not doing anything this weekend or going anywhere as I'm busy writing an essay and just don't have time or inclination so it's going to be lots of garden and having tea photos I'm afraid ....

Am at thought of having to make clothes though!

colie · 07/03/2010 12:26

I just worried about the bloody lovely thing getting covered in tomato sauce, toothpaste (which think it did), yoghurt etc.

I find it hard to be responsible enough to get my 3 children out the door clean in the morning, let alone 3 children and a bear!!
The pressure was just too much.

Don't think I am competitive enough. The teddy just really came to ours for dinner, toothbrushing, sleeping, breakfast and some more toothbrushing.

Was a photo of it at the beach (we only live one street away from said beach) but it was covered in salt water.

chocolatespiders · 07/03/2010 12:38

we took our one to strawbery farye in cambridge... i rememeber worrying about it the whole time

flaime · 07/03/2010 12:45

We just fed Reg the rabbit an ice cream and chucked him down the slide a few times . Can't be doing with trying to outdo everyone else, it hardly sets the kids a good example does it?

We've also had another 'pet' who was very worried - the kid was supposed to listen to his problem, then write it down and say how they solved it for him. Way to analyse a bunch of 5 yr olds!

DrNortherner · 07/03/2010 12:51

WE get a knitted pregnant Mary and Joseph and CHristmas time......some parents write 'Mary and Joseph had such a good night sleep - they are so tired on their long journey to Bethlehem........'

Dh wanted ds to write 'Joseph wants Mary to go on Jeremy Kyle so he can get a free DNA test, he's pretty sure that kid is not his....'

EVye · 07/03/2010 17:43

Our teddy went to DDs swimming lesson, the library (had to take books back), ate coco pops for breakfast and went to a pub reastaurant for lunch.

EVye · 07/03/2010 17:44

And had we not been one of the first to get said Teddy, he would have gone into the washing machine Niagra Falls.

UniS · 07/03/2010 20:43

monkey had a spin in the washing machine while he was with us. I didn't tell preschool.

I've no idea whatteh teddy is called. DS knows but what he says DH and I can't understand, every option we try is greeted with " nooooo, not that, its xxxxxx " hes given up now and tells me I must ask preschool staff what its called.

I almost cried laughing at some of these posts.
All sounds so familiar.
