After school care is £12 per day - seems like a lot?

The only provision offered at the local primary (local nursery pick-up and post-school session) is £12 a day.

How does that compare with other places?

Its almost twice that were we are - so you're getting a bargain compared to us!

WHAT?

oh sorry are you saying that you are paying £24?

Sounds reasonable to me - how many hours is that for?

morningpaper · 01/03/2010 13:18

It would be from 3.30 - 6, but with no food

Our is £3 a day (at neighbouring primary school) including a snack and after-school activities (ceramics, drama, karate &c).

southeastastra · 01/03/2010 13:24

i suppose it depends on if they are subsidised. £12 isn't too bad for two and a half hours.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 01/03/2010 13:26

Very cheap for the South.

But in Yorkshire my aunt pays £8 a day for breakfast club and after school club until 5.30pm, which includes breakfast and a hot snack.

'tis somerset

So £4.80 an hour - how does that compare with childminder rates in your area?

BigTillyMint · 01/03/2010 13:29

£24!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TennisFan, do you live in Wagsville?

Ours is £8.50 3.20 - 6, including a snack. And that's in inner London!

paddingtonbear1 · 01/03/2010 13:31

Ours is nearly £10 a day, from after school until 6pm, with a snack included. This is a privately run club, they pick up from several schools in the area.

Lancelottie · 01/03/2010 13:31

Yup, ours is £4 an hour for prebooked sessions, £5 per hour for last-minute pleadings down athe phone from work...

MollieO · 01/03/2010 13:32

Home Counties. £2.50 per day 3.20pm to 6.30pm biscuit and drink provided.

morningpaper · 01/03/2010 13:34

So much discrepancy - why do some areas subsidise and others don't?

I'll need both kids at the after-school club and it will be £24 a day!

This is making my DS's after school care look positively reasonable - 3:30 - 5:45, including tea (fairly substantial one - sandwiches + fruit + cake) is £10.

I think frogs wins on the best value front, though - where do you live?

OtterInaSkoda · 01/03/2010 13:36

Ours is the same price and provision as paddington's. We're in Somerset.

We pay the same private company just over £25 a day (8am - 6pm) in the hols, Tennnisfan! Includes snacks (they have to take a packed lunch) and trips. And they're fab trips, too.

haggisaggis · 01/03/2010 13:41

I pay £ 13.20 per day for 2. At least I did up until today when I now have to pay an extra £ 6 per day for transport costs! The council were paying for a taxi to collect the kdis from our school and take them to teh one where the club is - but now they have a minibus and we have to pay.

NorbertDentressangle · 01/03/2010 13:45

Here it is apparently £8 per after school session (3.30-6pm) and an extra £1.50 for a cooked meal which is optional.

stealthsquiggle · 01/03/2010 13:47

True, Otter - I pay between £17 & £25/day for holiday clubs (bizarrely, of three options, £17 one and £25 exclude lunch and £19 one includes it) - so £24 for after school care is definitely extortion!

£9 per session. Food not incl.

asdx2 · 01/03/2010 19:02

Ours is £5 per session 3-10pm til 6pm includes activities and snack. Also have the opportunity to do part sessions so I tend to pick up dd at 5pm and pay £3.50.

After school clubs get a subsidy for a few years (2, 3 or 5 generally) then when that runs out they often close(unless they are cost effect)

People tend to use the subsidy to keep prces low then when it runs out there is a massive rise & it stops being used
