Primary schools in bromley

Hello, this is my first time on mumsnet...
We are moving into the bromley area because we know there are good primary schools there.

however does anyone have any specific information on which schools are the best performing schools in bromley?

we are flexible on the actual area and would move to the area of bromley where the best schools are.

equally important which are the schools to avoid?
Appreciate you help, thank you.

My friend went to Valley but she's now 25 so this was a while ago! But it was nice and quiet, as it was quite small.

I like nice and quiet, sounds good to me - thanks again.

You have to be careful to get into catchment areas, we live on wickham rd, perfect for clare house and st mary's, however, we just got told we are not getting in this year because there are too many siblings. So make sure your close enough. We have send our little girl to bromley road infants, which I have heard has an awful reputation.

WickhamrdMum,
I am so sorry to hear your little girl didn't get into one of your preferred schools.
I am very scared of exactly the same happening to us, as we will be borderline for Highfields, and the road we'll be in would be outside the parish of St Marks (which means we are unlikely to be able to get into St Marks). So far we are pretty sure about Valley though, which is OK for me.

Could you tell me how far is Bromley Rd infants from where you are?

  • it is quite unbelievable that the council may sent a child as far as 2 miles away??!!!!

Were you able to get on a waiting list for Clare House / St Mary's?
Is there any realistic chance you'll be offered a place in your preferred schools sometime later in the year?

hi all,
I have been away for quite a while and have recently come back to catch up on this forum... really interesting food for thought from so many of you..
kirinski you are in the same boat as me albeit maybe one step ahead as we have not yet actively started looking for schools yet..really interested to see what you have done

wrt valley.. i have viewed the school and it was nice..if i remember correctly it didn't have a field but had a good gymnasium facility.
rightly said the ofstead is really good but also it is now a teaching school designate as it is one of the best schools in the country apparently.

some really good tips from people.. this is where I am at the moment..

going to go for a langley/ any other good primary school catchment area (not highfield as it is not affordable) e.g pickhurst oak lodge etc but aim for a grammar secondary school hopefully if my little boy gets in.. but have langley as a back up..

i went to a grammer myself in south west london, nonsuch grammer, so i know the benefits and good quality teaching in grammer schools from personal experience..

thank you to everyone for contributing there invaluable advice

just considering putting our house for sale - move to bromley over 8 years ago - Ravensbourne is our nearest school and not good by reputation and i have gone to the open day. Hopefully we can sell our house and move to langley catchment area.
does anyone know how long i have to live in if i rent for the time being while looking for a place to buy. my DC will be in Yr 6 next year

Buy in Hayes or West Wickham which are much cheaper than Park Langley and much nicer than Clockhouse with infinately better primary schools. However, you need to ensure that you are on the Langley schools side of Pickhurst Lane so that you are within the required geographical distance to get in. Pretty much all of the primary schools are good so best concentrate on being in place for Langley. I actually chose Pickhurst schools in preference to Highfield (huge lovingly used fields and more effort put into the bigger picture)and I live in Park Langley so my children could have gone to Highfield.

Re: Ravensbourne (and previous poster) - yes the school had a less than outstanding reputation. However, it has changed no end in the last 3 years. Outstanding ofsted for 6th form. Very dynamic head.

Definitely unwise to rest on reputation - though I do see you went to the open evening.

We moved last year to be in the catchment for bullers wood thinking dd was going to be an only child. One thing led to another and now expecting ds :) so really keen to hear more about ravensbourne from anyone with personal experience. We are never moving again and can't bear the thought of trying to coach ds for grammar....although maybe a bit mad to be thinking about this 11years before we need to!

just wondering if anyone know how many kids coming out of highfields or pickhurst go on to grammar schools?
