DS is scatty and hates homework. WOuld much prefer to play on Wii or watch TV. It is a constant battle to get him to do homework. I have to be on his case all the time. He is academically very bright but the teacher told me today and said it is becoming a real problem as he hasn't been doing much homework since Sept. The school has a relaxed attitude to homework and this is the first year that it has been consistently given although.

I am torn between thinking that homework is not essential and can turn off an otherwise able child and that it encourages discipline.

She wants to talk to us about it on Parents eve and I would welcome any thoughts advice.

Madsometimes and Mathsmadmummy - I have been there and done that re OU courses! Done the ones you are doing - it gets easier when you get going. Have finished my degree now (maths & economics) and miss the whole OU thing. Enjoy it!

Bendybob - the school willcall it "personalisation". Bollocks by any other name!

Thanks everyone. Parents Eve is tonight and no doubt we will discuss homework or the lack of.

I am sure that my reluctance to pursue it with DS is related to my own hatred of it when at school.

drosophilia - was just catching up with this thread and wondered how parents evening went?

Not too bad. There was more of a focus on DS's inability to focus on everything including homework. He takes about 15mins to get changed for PE etc. He has attention problems which are often very frustrating for anyone involved with him. You have to always be on his case so given that I have a baby and a 5 yr old you can see how homework gets forgotten.

He is in the process of being assessed through the NHS.
