Hi all
I have a 2 and a half year old and I am feeling the need to research local State Primaries (I know we might not get where we want) but would like to be prepared.
Anyone have any words of wisdom about the local schools in Acton?
Thanks so much.

If you are Acton presumably you are in Ealing Borough - if you go this link on ealing council's website and then click on "find your catchment area school" it will tell you which is your local school - some of the schools in Ealing are over-subscribed and you might have problem getting in if not in catchment and others are easier to get into
www.ealing.gov.uk/services/education/schools/admissions/primary
If your DC is 3 by end Aug 2010 he/she will be entitled to a nursery place at local school but you need to put his/her name down quick!
If you tell me which area of Acton you are in I might be able to give you more info

Hi,

Acton has a few primaries, but the ones near me are Berrymead, Derwentwater and St Vincents. St Vincents is catholic and you do need to be a regular churchgoer to attend, a lot of my neighbours attend this school and it seems to be a well run and overall good school. Derwentwater has also recently got rave reviews from parents and is oversubscribed now. I don't know much about Berrymead but views on it are mixed. Also alot of locals attend st saviours in ealing which is a church of england school. I think the best thing to do is go to each school for an open day and to listen to the Head. Good luck.

Hello
Thank you all for your replies. I feel very relieved, I think we are in the catchment for Derwentwater and it is so good to hear that other parents are happy with it. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that she gets a place!
Thanks again

Hi,
Having a two and half year old and you have the choice of two nurseries in Acton. Maples (state nursery near Acton Park) run by the lovely Mia Ospovat and her team. My kids went there 7 and 4 years ago and we still attend the Summer party every year. Many staff are still there and Mia runs a happy ship. Derwentwater also has a nursery and was not my first choice years ago, but has very, very much improved. My kids still go do Derwentwater and I love the school. There is a newish head Tim Mamak who so far is doing well. They all try their hardest. It is a happy school and I can recommend it to anybody.

Hello,
I came across this post after trying to find out the catchment area of our rd , Berrymead Gardens. However i seem to have only come up with Berrymead School as an option! Surely we cant be in the catchment for just one school!??

I belive that we are not in the catchment of Southfeilds or Derwentwater, which is a sahme. I howevr cant find whether we are in the are for St Vincents. The link on the eailing website only came up with Berrymead Schol as an option- cant be - can it??

Any further input would be greatly appriciated , also if anyone has had any luck getting into a school outside the catchment ie southfield or derwentwater??

Or does anyone have a LO or knows of any info on Berrymeade school would be great. Id like to hope the ofstead is not gospel and perhaps it may be a good school? ( Ofstead report not great- mainly scoring '3's!!)

Any input would be greatly appriciated

Thanks

Dont know too much on the subject as no longer local but I did attend St Vincent's (many moons ago)and most of my friends children attend RC primary schools.

Usually Catholic schools have a wider catchment area as it is based on local parishes & church attendance rather than door-to-door distance.

I lived in a neighbouring borough but got a place as we attended Mass weekly at one of the "feeder" Church Parishes, that did not have it's own School.

Hi, can anyone recommend to me which primary school to choose: Old Oak Primary School or East Acton Primary School? Please let me know. Thanks.
