SN Register-has anyone had a child on it and then off it?

I've just found out that my ds (Y3) is on the school SN register, with an IEP for his hand writing and a few other targets-mainly aiming for him to finish work in class.

Is it likely that he will remain on this register for the rest of his school life?

Have any other parents had children off and on at different periods?

Not really sure where to post this -I might try SN as well.

They're on the register as long as they have a need that is significantly impacting on their education. Some will be on there always, my son has Asperger's and will be. For some, if the need is met and the intervention 'fixes' the problem, then they come off. It's reviewed once a term in my school, new IEPs are written and new targets set.
If they come off the register, their needs are still closely monitored, and if it's necessary they go back on and extra support is given again.

Yes my DS was on and off the SEN register for spelling/ writing. HIs problem was that although he wasn't that bad he was a long way behind himself ie very bright in all other areas.

During yr4/5 and 6 he had one to one with spelling which got his writing upto 4c and he got taken off.

When he started secondary I spoke to the SENCO and he was put back on, although I just think they keep an eye on him.

DS1 was on it for a year for his hand writing in YR2. He came off at the end of it. It really helped his confidence.

The SEN register covers a wide range of difficulties, so please don't worry .

DS (8) is on it for a language disorder and is currently being weaned off it as he no longer has a language disorder, allegedly. It has been a tremendous help to him and he really would not be in the position he is today if he had not been on it from the start of Year 1 which may sound a bit obvious but the point being it is nothing to be anxious about.

Plenty of others in his class have also benefitted from his statement as it provides an extra TA for 20 hours a week.
