Hello,

we are moving to Scotland in a few months. We have two children (5 and 7 years old) and are looking for a place in Falkirk or Stirling.

Could you please share your thoughts on these places in terms of good/bad schools, good places to live for families, friendly people...

Am I right to think that Falkirk and Stirling are withing commuting distance for Glasgow?

Thanks a lot for any advice you can give me (positive or negative comments will all be welcome).

I live in Falkirk. Unfortunately I'm not at the school stage with my daughter yet so can't provide much information there.

It's easy to commute to Edinburgh or Glasgow from here. In fact that's why we live here I work in Edinburgh and H works in Glasgow. There is a train every 15 minutes to both cities and it takes around 20-25 mins to get to Glasgow by train and 25-30 to Edinburgh.

Since having my daughter, I have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of activities and facilities for children here. There seems to be a lot going on and I've made a lot of friends through baby and toddler groups. I see your 2 are a bit older but there still seems to be a lot going on.

In terms of facilities, standard high street shops including a small M&S and Debenhams are available. It's not the most cosmopolitan of places and I struggled to settle in when I moved from a larger city a few years ago but now we have a family it feels much more suitable. There's soft play, a few family style pubs and restaurants. I cannot pretend that there is an array of fine dining establishments to choose from........

Stirling is bigger, has more shops and so on, but seems to be more expensive. House prices in Falkirk are pretty reasonable.

Have you looked at Larbert? It's smaller than Falkirk or Stirling but there are lots of nice houses and the primary schools have a good reputation.
