DS in Year One - should he have a best friend?

Am slightly concerned as some of the boys in his class are now forming strongish friendships. He seems popular and has friends, but not a best friend. Is this normal or should I be worried?

normal ime
you could ask if he wants to invite someone back for tea though

normal. I positively discourage my dc from having 'best friends'. I was a best friend only type of person and it really did me no favours.

My DS is in Y3 and has no 'best friend'.

DD is in Y1 and is very popular (not inherited from me), but she doesn't have a best friend either. Indeed, she complains about other girls wanting her to be their best friend. I'd say it was normal.

normal. in our infant school they moved them all around after yr r and then his only friend moved house.

despite this he's yr 3 now and a very sociable chap with plenty of boys to hang with. he has the odd friend for tea but no real 'best friend' thing.

Thanks everyone. We do have a couple of different boys for tea sometimes, but this hasn't happened for a while due to one thing or another. Will make some arrangements now. Glad its normal
