Parents evenings

My Dcs school only has two parents evenings per year, one in October and one in July. Is it just me or does July seem a bit late in the school year for the second one? I suppose if there were any real problems you would hear about them before July. P.s state primary (obviously) Thanks

We have three, one in October which is the "how are they settling in, this is what we will be working on, areas they need to develop, targets for the term" type, a similar one in March where we look at the progress they have made (or not!) areas to concentrate on, idea of levels etc. Every parent is expected to attend both of these with their child. The July one is just a "drop-in" following the issue of reports to discuss any issues arising, worries for the following year etc. Naturally if anything arises during the year we would discuss this with parents asap, it saves many a problem later

lovecheese I agree there should be one somewere in the middle. Last year, at the Oct meeting the teacher said that ds1 (Y2) was doing great, everything was fine. At the end of year one she said his concentration was terrible and showed me how little he had done in his maths book. I wished I had known about these problems earlier.

lovecheese, why don't you just book an appointment in March with the teacher - does seem daft to leave it to July. fwiw, we have termly meets, so three a year.

smee - might just do that, I suppose 10 minutes of her time at the end of the day is not unreasonable, just dont want to be seen as a pest

If any issues arise at another time in the school year, can you make an appointment?

I would - you're not being a pest, you're just reasonably asking if she's on track and if there's anything you need to know about/ can help with. At DS's school the parents can drop in any day between 3.45 and 4pm and chat to the teacher. Works well as people don't abuse it and it means it's never a massive deal to see the teacher.
