Was just a bit shocked to hear this about ds class, they are singled out and have good things taken away. Surely at 4 & 5 they would be able to go when they needed to?

I think gentle encouragement to wait until playtime/go at playtime is fine but to penalise them at such a young age is a bit harsh

that teacher is mad! and askeing for puddles on the floor or worse

did youur child tell you this? or was it an adult? I can't believe any teacher would be this daft

bumpybecky · 05/02/2010 09:41

asking sigh!

When my DC were in rececption there was a limit to how many children could go to the toilet at the same time or else they would just go in there en mass and play. Even then they would go and check out each others poos! Might be worth chatting to the teacher to get the whole story. BTW girls were as bad as boys! Dont think they are made to wait till break time till juniors

What is actually happening in the class? Who has told you about it? It is very unclear what is actually being said or what is actually happening?

I do agree that at this age children should be ab;e to go to the toilet as and when they need to go, although also that encouragement to go at play time anmd lunch breaks, and to avoid circle time or directed learnign time, is also quite normal to an extent too.

my ds told me this but also another parent. it wasn't actually my ds being penalised this time, he told me a couple of others were involved. I can understand they are trying to get them to go at break times but to single them out and take things away seems a very harse way of getting the message across!

I would talk to the teacher.

5 year old's versions are often confused. Did the othe rparent get it direct fromt he teacher or from her DC?

In what way are the children singled out? In what way are the children penalised?

Having had a DD who understood very quickly that asking for the loo was brillaint if you were getting bored, you might want to find out what is actually happening.
I had to find a way to make DD less inclined to ask whenever she wanted to avoid a situation. It isn't easy
