We are moving to Glasgow. What are the best areas in terms of primary (and possibly secondary) schools in/around Glasgow? Thanks.

Glasgow schools like all areas mixed bag, certainly not all grim though.but as you'd find elsewhere good schools are oversubscribed and tend be in affluent areas.but Glasgow is a vibrant city.having lived in manchester I'd say both have similar vibe.I'd suggest pick an area by location, amenities, school and do an estate agent search.and do look into the different house buying system up here too

www.gspc.co.uk/. is useful website search property

Hi. We are relocating to the Glasgow area from Manchester next autumn and I would like any information on good areas to bring children up in. My DD will be 4 in June and in England would be due to start primary school full time next September, but I understand she would not start primary school until the following year in Scotland? Are there any primaries that take children from age 4 as, having already been in a school environment here for the past year, she will be ready for school full time next year (and so am I...!). I also have a one year old so am also keen on areas with local play centres, a nice town centre and good parks. Can anyone help please.

like all cities what's your budget, what size house do you need, garden or not?
do you drive or will you need good transport
big city where are you relocating too

house buying is different in Scotland, goes on offers over
www.gspc.co.uk/ property search useful

lenzie, milngavie, bearsden ,bishopbriggs north Glasgow good family areas and schools

clarkston, pollokshields, langside, south side and good family areas, south side is cheaper

west end v buzzy vibrant, tends to be large tenement flats or pricy houses

if you look at Glasgow city council website it links schools and stuff.do be aware popular schools are v oversubscribed

I lived Manchester and I'd say comparable in term of vibe and buzz,if you can do m'chester you can do the

do your research,look gspc
and good luck

scottishmummy · 18/12/2011 20:24

sorry,I think she'd go P1 2013
you enter in august, in year she turn 5 and from the 1 march of year she turn 5 (2013) til the following feb is the time period for entry.you can request early entry but don't know anything about that.or suppose look for nursery place

BigShazz · 19/12/2011 13:24

scottishmummy many thanks for your advice and also for the links, I will have a good look at both of these. it is probably the south side we will look at as DH's job is in East Kilbride and it is also closer for journeys back here to see family. glad to hear its cheaper this end!

i am coming to the conclusion that if good schools are already over subscribed it is unlikely she would get an early placement in 2012 but will look into this also.

thanks again.

scottishmummy · 19/12/2011 13:39

ek has nice bits and eaglesham village and waterfoot

HELLO Has anybodies children been to Our lady of annunciation Primary school or attended the new Tinto Primary ?

LittleLula · 13/08/2012 22:16

Hi Kashy. I know OLA very well in a professional capacity. It is an excellent school. Outstanding HT, fantastic teaching, engaged children, really rigorous in all areas.

If I had kids I'd send them there!

kashy · 17/09/2012 10:47

annetti · 14/05/2015 23:30

hi! could anyone give me any information about schools in hamilton? Both primary and sec, please
thank you

letsghostdance · 15/05/2015 07:55

So much snobbery in here. People assuming that just because a school is in a deprived area it'll be a bad school. Really shocking that people are so keen to keep their children away from the "poor and uncultured" in deprived areas.

Getanswers1 · 27/06/2017 01:35

Hi All....i too I'm now in the primary school selection dilemma... can anyone tell me between st Joseph's primary in stepps & st Barbara in muirhead which is better. .. can any of the 2 be compared to st aloysius college primary?
I desperately need to choose one of these schools within 7 days for my dd to start in August. Can anyone help?

Giffnock · 15/06/2018 20:49

East Renfrewshire has fantastic schooling and an amazing place to live and great quality of life. St Ninian’s High Giffnock is the top rated High school here and I believe O.L.M primary is the best primary school. My vote would be for St Cadoc’s Crookfur which feeds in to St Ninians. You will be pay a premium as has been mentioned though.
