Oxford Reading Tree - what level do Biff, Chip and Kipper stop at?

DS is on Level 7 (ones that don't have B, C and K in - Robins or More Robins or some other bird). Will there be more of the great trio when we get to stage 8 or is that it?

DS2 is in Year 1 (5.6). Most of the Level 7 books are fine but I did think the Riddle books were abit difficult for him to grasp.

At the moment he is changing his book about 4 times a week and reading the same number of nights.

NoahAndTheWhale · 28/01/2010 19:57

Which ones have riddles in? Have I managed to sleep through them?

Apparently Nadim's real name is Nigel

NoBiggy · 28/01/2010 20:18

And Wilma's real name is Bob.

clayre · 28/01/2010 20:19

you seem to get through the books quicker than us, we only get through one book a week although dd would manage more than that but the school wont budge.

NoahAndTheWhale · 28/01/2010 20:25

We average about one book a week I think.

Have started another thread about how often books get changed

I see no one has left any reviews yet

Am I the only one getting quite intrigued (and bewildered) by some of the plots (I use the term loosely)?

We just had one where they have moved into a new house, and find a dolls' house that is a replica of them and their house. I mean, how damn creepy is that?

And another one where they discover a treasure box. And it has a key in it. The end. No further mention. V V Odd.

Are they written by people who smoke too much special baccy?....

I hated Biff, Chip and Kipper, and all their little friends. Just reading the title of this thread has produced traumatic flashbacks.

Though I have to ask - where did people find out their real names from? We never got to that bit (the dses primary school phased out ORT around year 1, if I recall correctly - at least, there was plenty of other choice, and the boys never brought any more home). I always assumed that Biff, Chip and Kipper were their real names, and frankly I thought that was tantamount to abuse and they should have been taken into care and renamed something more normal, like Chardonnay, Beckham and Prince.

Elibean · 29/01/2010 18:38

Noah, dd is 6 (Dec. birthday) and in Y1. I think she is on the equivalent of ORT level 7, and is fine so far with the stories - though most of them have not been ORT, so can't judge the riddle ones!

Though the plot did get very odd towards the end of the last one she had....I did wonder if the writer had just got bored and decided to go wild...

aleene · 29/01/2010 19:00

AwesomeWellies - the key they find is the magic key, which then takes takes them on adventures to different places/times.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl - there are teachers scripts to read to the children when you are introducing the characters in the books to them. We had a large flop -over chart thingie with pictures that matched different parts of the notes. HTH!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 29/01/2010 20:58

Thanks aleene!!

Bodenbabe · 29/01/2010 21:51

Oh I luuuurve Biff & co!! Thes vbest bit is looking for the glasses in every book - we only found out about that when we were halfway through the series. Some of the illustrations are hilarious - have you seen the one with the console in the rocket? That's brilliant.

Heifer · 29/01/2010 23:06

After having to listen to DD (yr 1)read the Ginn books for 1.5 years, B, C & K and the magic key was a godsend!

DD suddenly wants to read her book every night, making my life so much easier.

This weekend she is looking forward to reading "Scarecrow" and "Camping Adventure"

God Save Biff and Chip I say

thegrammerpolicesic · 31/01/2010 16:04

So far in almost all the ones we have had someone has an idea...Dad had an idea, Wilma had an idea, Kipper had an idea, even sodding Floppy has an idea.

I do like them really though.

Honeybarbara · 31/01/2010 21:08

I agree, ORT may be mind-numbing in the early stages but imo it is FAR better than some of the dross we have had to plough through from other reading schemes.

MrsDrOwenHunt · 19/01/2011 19:38

ds (5) just brought words and pics home of these people, who are they

MigratingCoconuts · 19/01/2011 20:53

MigratingCoconuts · 19/01/2011 20:56

lol at future storylines for B,C and K!!

Thye could almost be a new Eastenders family....

Still, I like them...better than 'John does lots of really cool stuff...Janet looks on'
