Teaching my son to read at home (and some maths) - what do I need to get?

Our son was 4 in June, but as children dont start school where we live now in Norway until the year they are 6, he is still a year and a half away from starting school.

But we may be returning to the UK for that schoolyear, and he will have missed out on both reception and year 1. He is bilingual and bright.

We want to work through some phonics reading and maths at home. Any suggestions?

I used this book as a guideline (not as a gospel).

DS was reading short words before he was 4, and I only covered a little bit less than a fourth of the book. (he had learned all his letters beforehand playing with the magnets on the fridge, which I got not because I was a pushy parent but because he loved magnets and alphabets were the cheapest ones)

Try jolly Phonics or Read Write inc, for phonics, our school uses the Jolly phonics and we have the CS and song books and some work books at home. you can get them off Amazon. They also helo with writing!

IIRC, you are renting your old place out? If so, ring the local schools and see what scheme they use.

Not sure about the maths, sorry.
