I don't know how DD2 manages it (very trivial thread)

Ok it's not important but it pisses me off. So it's winter, it's schooltime, which means that you have to get the DCs to school complete with big coat, hat, scalf, gloves/mittens and now with the snow, wellies (with shoes in a bag to change into once in school). This is on top of the usual load of stuff they take to school everyday.

You manage to do all that then when you pick them up it's:-

Me: Where's your scalf?
DD2: I dunno. Lost it.
Me: How? Where did you leave it last? etc
DD2: I dunno.
Me: It's your first day back at school and you've lost your new scalf that you had for Christmas? (and cost a lot because it's a nice one from a matching set).

DD2 has been back at school for 3 days and has so far mislaid 2 pairs of gloves and a scalf. Today I searched the school and recovered both pairs of gloves but the scalf is still missing. Quite disappointed because, as I say, the scalf is part of a lovely matching set.

I know this is a common story but it really gets to me.

But what can you do????

Elastic may be the answer for the gloves then and I have now rammed it into DD2's head that all loose items go into her schoolbag, not on the peg. We've been quite lucky judging by some of the lists on this thread - just need to find the scarf now!

Thanks all.

oh rth please don't sew a 6yo's gloves on elastic!

It's OK at nursery but feels really odd once they are at school.

Like 6yos in mittens (I have seen it, but surely any NT 6yo can put on a pair of gloves?)

I am being (semi) serious here

DH was wearing mittens in the snow today, and he is both NT and significantly over 6. The surface area to volume ratio and way the air circulates inside makes them significantly warmer than gloves (he got his current pair while trekking in Nepal).

clary - yes I had pondered that thought about the elastic. I think I'll stick with the idea of items being returned to her bag for now and see how she gets on.
MattSmith - interesting theory re: mittens v gloves.

Maybe mittens (presumably fancy pants specialised snow ones) are a good idea in very cold snow.

But if you had seen (as I have) a 6yo trying to open a packet of raisins with woolly mittens on because his mother doesn't think he can manage to put on gloves, you'd see my point!

NOW I feel like a really bad mother!

Moving on from the gloves altogether and onto DD1, it turns out that DD1's sprained wrist is actually a broken one - she's been upto A&E tonight with DH whilst I've been at work. I have to take her again tomorrow to have the proper plaster put on. Feel a bit guilty because I'm used to DD1 injuring herself (bit of a clumsy clot) and I just gave it a cold compress and a sling over the weekend...

She's supposed to be going on a 3-day school trip on Wednesday!

I give up.
