How do you mean? Long sleeves?

At the infant school I work at the children wear the same clothes for PE all year round.

DD is now in juniors and has various PE and sport kits, including tracksuit and sweater - all part of uniform. Various different combos depending on what they are doing, where they are doing it and what the weather is like. In infants it was same PE wear all year round/

I mentioned to DD's (year 1) teacher than DD was freezing during PE (its outside )
she said they can wear navy tracksuit (uniform is navy) so have put navy tracksuit (from asda) in DD's PE bag.

Yup, you really need trackie not extra warm shirt and shorts - if its indoors PE and they are active that would get too hot.

DD has trackie, hardly ever wears the bottoms. They wear long football-type socks in winter which helps keep the legs warm.

well that's just it - they are not allowed to cover their knees and elbows in case they slip while climbing - i have passed by the playground during school hours and seen children shivering - this is the first time i have had to give it any thought as they were still settling in up until now.

kids are doing outdor PE in shorts and tshirts? ridiculous!

Hulababy · 10/12/2009 17:38

Yes, they definitely need covering if doing outdoor PE. DD has a tracksuit for outdoor PE, or where a tracksuit is not suitable she has a games skirt, thick over the knee socks and a cricket style jumper.

??? what sort of PE lesson involves a significant amount of outdoor climbing?

If they do a bit on the climbing frame, can't they just take off trackie for that?

wordsonascreen · 11/12/2009 18:59

Its probably a private school

How on earth would having your knees and elbows covered make you slip while climbing? What are they climbing?

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 11/12/2009 19:58

Yes, all those people who climb Everest and other mountains have to do it in shorts and T-shirt otherwise they might slip when climbing... ( at school)

tispity · 11/12/2009 20:11

the other thing is - PE three times a week at age 4 - is this normal?

3 times a week is brilliant - you're very lucky!

hocuspontas · 11/12/2009 20:53

I'm not sure I understand the slipping bit. Are the school thinking that everyone still wears the shiny silky tracksuits of the 80s?

Hulababy · 12/12/2009 17:08

wordsonascreen - DD's is a private school and, as I said, lots of coverings for the children when doing outdoor PE.
