My ds was really happy at school in Reception and Y1. Now the little group he is playing with seems to be splitting up and falling out. He says that several of them want to play Pokeman and he doesn't have any idea how to play this. I am as much in the dark about Pokeman - can anyone give me a bit more information on this. Also any general advice would be appreciated as he is really down about it at the moment.

Can't help with Pokeman - my nephew once tried to explain it me and I got completely lost!

Is there anyone else he can play with? Maybe he's just grown apart from his old friends. Kids quite often change their friends as they move through school as they develop different interests. Either that or he could just go with it and try and play Pokeman with them (there are trading cards, computer games and it's on TV (CITV I think)).

www.pokemon.com/ I am afraid if it was me I would research the topic and buy some cards. I hate that they target the kids in this way but after three kids I know you usually can't beat it. The playground can be tough if you don't watch the right cartoons or have a few cards of a certain type.

My ds is mad about Pokemon but has never had any interest in the cards and (AFAIK) neither have his friends.

The Pokemon cartoons are usually on Cartoon Network. People often download them to Youtube too.

The basic idea is that a Pokemon trainer (who is often a child) travels around with his Pokemon. The Pokemon battle with the Pokemon of other trainers.

Most of the Pokemon are specific types, eg fire types, water types, ground types, ice types etc. It works a little like the game 'Scissors, Paper, Rock" where certain types are stronger against other types so:

Water pokemon beat Fire types, but Electric types beat Water types.

It's all very complicated tbh. My Ds loves the Gameboy and DS games where you catch Pokemon and train them up into a team.

There will be lots of other children who aren't interested in Pokemon. I would say that the children who are interested at your Ds' age are almost certainly the ones with older brothers and sisters who like it.

Thank very much for the information. We are going to have a look on the web site. He says they have been playing other games lately, including the Weakest Link!!!!! Maybe I should just give up keeping up or worrying.
