do you ever wonder whether your homemade cakes (sent in for school fetes or as presents) actually make the grade? i am getting better at baking but not exactly brilliant - i would hope my gingerbread men would not put people off dc??

We do baking some weekends and both times recently ds has insisted on taking cakes into school for teachers. They are still talking to him and he got some lovely thank you notes this week. He takes about 8 to 10 cakes as that fits in the cake tin and he makes a list of who he'll give them too .

At our school all the items that are homemade not shop-bought sell out first. I bet yours are snapped up.

Oh yes home made are always best.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you they don't buy home made stuff. It doesn't need to be immaculate at all.

Homemade best unless made by the children.

My dds school is very child orientated (things aren't really done to impress the parents) and the cakes that are brought in for fetes etc. are generally made by the children.

However, I can never bear to eat a cake with blue icing that has probably been enthusiastically iced by a grubby child with a cold!

Ds always makes the cakes in our house and I am scrupulous when it comes to hygiene.

MollieO - from the pov of the buyer who wouldn't know that, i may stick to making (and purchasing) traybakes in that case! brownies are probably 'safe'

My 7y DD is better at making cakes then me

We always buy home made cakes from the cakes stalls at school. And when DD made some bins recently for her Brownie badge she took some in for her class teacher, who enjoyed them too.

Your dd's teacher eats 'bins'. Isn't that taking recylcing a little too far?
