catchment areas and siblings????

My DS has just started at one of 3 primary schools in our village. We are now loking at buying a house at the other end of the village and closer to the other schools. Does anyone know if his sister will get bumped off the list at DS's school or will the sibling rule apply even if she is one of the furthest away?
I find the whole thing really vague so please can anyone explain it to me in words of one sylable?
TIA

In my area siblings are second on the list after children in care. If it is a 30 pupil intake and there are 31 siblings, I imagine you'd be bumped as the furthest away. If there are 5 siblings, you'll be fine

Different areas have different rules and the rules could change before younger siblings are due to start. Check your LA
's rules.

You'll have to check with the local authority as it will vary school to school. And even then they could change the rules with no notice.

Check the school's rules. One school in my town has church admissions. Until recently many parents went to church to get their first child in and then stopped, getting younger children in through the sibling rule. They've now changed the admissions criteria so that church goers get places before siblings.

Most schools in our LA say catchment siblings first, then catchment, then non-catchment siblings.

some say non-catchment sibs before catchment non-sibs - which of course annoys those in catchment who don't get a place because of people who move but actually makes a lot of sense to me, and avoids the nonsense of siblings at different schools.

YEs check with LA as others say.

Here I think it's children in care, then catchment siblings, then catchment 'no sibs' , then non-catchment siblings. As the catchment area is semi-rural and quite large then I think it's fair enough to put catchment no-sibs before non-catchment siblings - frankly if you moved that far you would rationally move your elder child and if you didn't then you really are just 'baggsing' places for younger siblings.

Here there is no sibling rule

deepdarkwood · 08/12/2009 13:54

Check with the school/LEA - at ours, siblings have priority over catchment, but it does vary (as all the responses on this thread clearly show )

We would be moving within the catchment area anyway but as all 3 village schools are oversubscribed places tend to be allocated geographically. But, I've checked the school admissions criteria, and they seem to put siblings before catchment so I guess that helps.
Thanks for all your help.

Talk to the school. For example some schools have a distance requirement with sibling, ie sibling priority provided that child lives within x miles of school.
