repeated illness in reception

My daughter started reception in September. Since about a year ago she has suffered with repeated urinary infections. She is currently seeing a consultant at the hospital, she has had one or two tests but so far they havent really dine anything to help. When she gets an infection she normally wakes up with a temperature of anywhere between 38 and 40 degress, about half the time she is being sick and she is always pale, tired and often has pain with urination (although not always). She has been ill 5 times since september, 4 of those (today included) she has had to have time off school, the shortest was just one day missed the longest was 3 days. She has had antibiotices twice in that time.

I am worried that the school will start querying her time off as her attendance must be quite low by now. The school information we had at the start said that attendance must be above 95% but her attendance must be below that by now.

She has another consultant appointment in January but im just not sure what to do!.

Am I doing the right thing keeping her off?. should i send her when her temp isnt too high (say 38.5 or lower with calpol?). I am really getting stressed about this now!

The whole point of monitoring school attendance is really to catch those whose non attendance is not authorized, but she is young and she has been sick. I really wouldn't worry about it at all. Obviously keep the school informed, and the absolute worst that will happen is that someone may call to see if there is anything that can be done to facilitate her going back to school.

A lot of kids are going to get viruses when they first start school anyway, but think you're right to keep her off.

Don't worry.

I wouldn't send a child in with a temp of 38.5 and tired and pale. Take advice from your GP, wite to the school detailing what is happening and ignore any standard letters you get from them regarding attendance.

If you speak to the school maybe they can help you with a home study programme for the days she is too ill to come in but could manage to do something at home.

Trust your instinct and as already stated, don't worry.

Keep her off. Her absence is perfectly legitimate because she is ill. Definitely don't send the poor LO in with a temp!

she is below statutory school age so she doesn't have to be there at all.Schools have a code for different types of absence and there is seperate one for those who haven't attained legal school age yet.
As far as I know the threshold for EWO involvment is absence >20%

I love my dog 'The whole point of monitoring school attendance is really to catch those whose non attendance is not authorized' That is not true they are to support children with long term illness etc too

The OP doesn't say whether her DD is 5 years old or younger so not sure how you know she's below statutory school age?
