A positive thread to celebrate lovely primary school teachers

There are so many negative threads on Mumsnet about teachers so I thought I would start a positive one about all the good teachers out there.

DS is in year one and had a fabulous reception teacher, nearing retirement, very "motherly" and truly lovely. His year 1 teacher looks scarily young (I must be getting old) but is also brilliant.

His (State) school isn't the best in the dreaded "League Tables" but by no means the worst.TBH I think league tables are a load of b%%%%%%t,even with the value added stuff. The thing I like most about it is the friendly and inclusive atmosphere of the school.Everyone from the school crossing man to the HT are friendly and welcoming, and have bent over backwards to accomadate a lot of non school related issues our family have experienced in the last 2 years.

So here's a thread of praise to all hardworking Primary teachers out there.

well said, I completely agree that some are totally under valued

DD1 started school last year and adored her teacher. Considering she'd just lost her Granny and gained a new baby sister in a matter of days it could have been a tough time for her but her lovely lovely teacher was fabulous. As such she went happily every single day and still does.

DS's Year 1 teacher appears to be totally on top of the needs of her class of 30. Perhaps it's daft, but I am particularly impressed by the relationship between her and her TA. The teacher is 22, the TA is at least 5 years older with substantial experience in another field. Sadly I would have struggled to cope with this at the teacher's age, but from what I can see they are a true team. I learn a lot from them.

BeehiveBaby · 02/12/2009 21:55

DD1's teacher and TA are flexible, creative, attentive and another example of a true team. I either get a lump in my throat or a spring in my step when I think how happy I am with them and the (mid table) school.

busybutterfly · 02/12/2009 21:59

DS1's teacher is utterly FAB.

Can I name her?! (Have just googled her and she comes up so I'd better not )

Hulababy · 02/12/2009 22:04

DD is in Y3. All of DD's teachers, so far, have been great in their own different ways. They have all been different in many ways and had different types of personalities. DD has thrived and continues to do so. Very pleased, and very happy with her school and her teachers.

I work with a Y1 teacher and I know that she works really hard for the children and always has the children's best interests at heart. A good teacher

This is such a nice thread. My DH is a reception teacher and he loves his job. He works really hard to get the best for the children and really cares about them. He has a great relationship with his TA and they really enjoy seeing how the children settle into school. It is a true vocation for him. Not just to big up my DH here, just to let you know that teachers really do care about the children being happy and developing.

ronshar · 02/12/2009 22:12

My DD2 bloody loves her recption teacher. I also love her because she said that DD2 was full of spirit. A less nice person would have said she is a nightmare child

Three cheers for teachers and the thankless task they do for those pain in the arse parents who feel that their child is so much more special than everyone else's.

DS (yr1) has so far had two amazing, inspiring class teachers. Both have been kind, focussed, a bit off the wall, but also reassuringly firm. That's not to mention the TA's and other teachers who he tells me about. Not one has been off yet, so am feeling both lucky and (after my primary experience) jealous of him.

sunnydelight · 03/12/2009 04:09

DD will have to say goodbye to her kindy (reception) teacher on Tuesday as it's the end of the school year here. We could both cry - he has been so fantastic; encouraging, inspirational, funny, patient, I could go on forever. DS2 will also miss his wonderful teacher - she looks totally scary (she comes to school every day dressed in black from head to toe with dyed jet black hair and panda eye make up) but is the kindest most clued up, woman ever. I think being a primaryt teacher is a really tough job and deserve more praise - I always e-mail the head of primary at the end of the year to praise the teachers individually as generally only the people who aren't happy take the time to write.

cory · 03/12/2009 07:28

Nice to see this thread! Dcs have had several brilliant primary school teachers over the years. Dd's class teacher in Yr 1 springs to mind, and her maths teacher in Yr 6. When things are tough, a good and inspiring teacher can make such a difference!

nickschick · 03/12/2009 07:32

During the day yesterday I took ds3 ice skating- a class was there before us and the teacher a very trendy younger man was so vvv patient putting on shoes and gloves and hats wiping noses and just being 'nice'.

Lizzylou · 03/12/2009 07:37

DS1's REception teacher last year had a fearsome reputation but he loved her and I found her warm and caring.
His Year 1 Teacher this year is fantastic. Cannot praise her highly enough, DS1's behaviour and concentration has improved no end. He wants to learn and to read and write. She has really engaged with the children and knows that all children respond differently. She is a fab teacher.

Very happy here

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/12/2009 07:37

My dd has only ever had fabulous teachers. Her current one is just brilliant. She has a challenging class to say the least, but she is always patient and encouraging. Firm but fair and a brilliant role model. Miss X is getting married at easter and has invited the whole class to her wedding. Secure in the knowledge that nobody with any sense is going to make the trip from Switzerland to Australia!

MintyCandyCane · 03/12/2009 11:13

We have never had a bad teacher. I cannot believe how much school has moved on since I was a kid. The teachers are all kind and approachable and I think they are great. They do so much and a great deal of the time it is way above the call of duty.

I often read posts by Morloth and think thank goodness for teachers like that !

clayre · 03/12/2009 11:16

DD (P2) has a brilliant teacher, shes a bit eccentric and floaty but dd seems to be thriving in her class, much happier and her work is coming on much better than last year.

OrmIrian · 03/12/2009 11:19

Never had a bad 'un!. Currently grumpy pregnant Yr6 teacher is causing DD a bit of grief but nothing she cant handle. And her Yr4 teacher was a bit useless TBH but v nice. Otherwise a pretty good bunch. I guess we've been lucky.

Metella · 03/12/2009 11:24

Ds1 has had three fabulous teachers - all special in their own way. I'd love to name them so that if they googled themselves they would find praise on t'internet!!!

Ds2 says that his current teacher is "the best teacher ever".
