At my dd's school this year in order to ensure fair allocation of tickets to the nativity, the school have decided to run 4 "box offices" on 4 separate afternoons after school. Tickets are 1 pound each. You can only get tickets from the boxoffice. You can only get 2 tickets from any 1 box office, you can only collect them for other parents if you have a written request from the said parent and then the name will be written on the back to ensure that you don't try to use them for yourself .

It is preferred that children under the age of 5 only attend the dress rehearsal.

The front seats at the performances are reserved for "special guests" - govenors or ex head teachers who are given tickets free of charge, do not have to que and whose tickets are reserved for them before the tickets go on sale.

My dds grandparents wanted to go and so I qued for the 1st box office for about 20 odd mins with 5 children ( aged 5 and under) and bought the tickets for them.

I then asked a friend ( and duly provided full written request ) to get 2 for me and dp for the only performance he could go too, as she would be queing and I was collecting dd an hour later that day.

I then went to the 3rd box office to get the final ticket that I needed for my dd2 to attend with us. I had no way of knowing if I would get my last ticket and without it one of us would need to stay at home with dd2

Several parents have expressed their annoyance at how the school has managed the allocation of tickets.

So can you tell me how your school managed this feat of fairness?

Were you happy with the way they organised it?

How would you feel about this schools method?

TIA

???? Whats the point in having a school play if the parents don't go to watch it??? Thats the whole point from the dcs point of view isn't it? They are up on a stage doing something totally different to the usual routine and M & D are there giving them their full attention...

Who is invited???

How old is your dd?

Cat64- She's LD with lots of other health probs, she doesn't HAVE any friends houses to 'go round' as you so kindly put it, I'm sure she would LOVE to be able to do that/invited to anyones house/party/ trip to town/anything with someone else.....and I don't have any 'friends' that are willing to watch an ASD 11YO when THEY are trying to go to the same play....nor do I have any family to look after her. She isn't allowed to sit in a classroom (I've asked) so what would YOU suggest????

It's nuts! DD is 9 and in year 4. They are doing it to the other kids apparently, not quite sure how that is going to work. I'm gutted.

DDs school has issued two tickets per family for one of 4 showings, if you want more tickets you have to join a waiting list for any that are returned or are not allocated. They are free.

At her infant school it was just a case of turning up at one of the performances during the day but probably not getting a seat - it was a small hall.

Ours put on two performances. One on Wednesday afternoon (So afternoon annual leave for me then!) and a performance on Thursday evening. 2 tickets per show.

DD's Christmas play is Year 1 only, so 61 children (59 families - two sets of twins). There is a morning performance and an evening one, we are entitled to three tickets per family per performance, and can then request extras on top of that if they become available. No charge, no first-come-first-served - all done via a letter in the bookbag (DD with strict instructions to make sure the form made it out of her bookbag, as not everything has been recently). No children at the evening performance - if you have a child at the school they'll see it at another time, if you've got a child at another school or in nursery it's tough I guess.

There are a total of 75 children in DS Yr1. They do individual class nativities, DS's class is doing 2 performances one at 9 and the other at 11.. We can have two tickets and state our preference for which performance to attend. Tickets get sent home with child. No cost and no costume to provide ! x
