?

Dd1 is almost 6, she has a lot of friends but not many close friends, she finds it easier to get communicate with adults.

When i take her to school she runs over to the teacher and talks to them and the teachers all know dd1. She has her art work outside the heads office and gets picked to help in class.

She loves attention from the teachers, i just worry that she may not grow out of following the teachers around and will loose her friends.

Is it ok for her to be like this? or should i encourage her to leave the teachers alone and play with her friends?

It sounds perfectly normal for Y1 to me. Most little children will do anything to impress their teachers. They tend to grow out of it on their own, and will find their own way.

I have two children, one in Y2 and one in Y5. When the morning bell goes the Y2 children rush to their line to get into class and see their teacher. The Y5's saunter slowly to their line and seem far more interested in catching up with the latest chat than going into class. The difference always makes me smile.

My Y2 dd2 is not great socially either. Since joining Y2 she has started playing with other children more, but still is very happy to wander around the playground on her own. I think children vary greatly in terms of how sociable they are with each other.

It is hard not to worry about this. However, my Y5 dd1 was not very good with other children when she was in the infants. She now treats school as a chance to catch up with her friends, so hopefully my little one will improve slowly.

Thanks for your replies, Dd1 struggles with socializing, she has Aspergers syndrome, she's either to full on with other children (and they get fed up with her) or she plays on her own. The teachers seem to love her out going personality, she comes across as being over confident (she thinks she knows everything), she gets on well with some of the older children as they are more on her wave length.

Today was her first day back after being ill all week and all the children ran towards her when we got into school (shouting her name/pleased to see her) but dd1 was in a hurry to go and see her teacher .
