Child in class talking about watching porn on the internet

DS has told me a child in his class has been describing watching porn on the intranet.

It sounds plausible - the child described what he saw and told me what he had said.

Would you speak to the class teacher about this? It's happened a couple of times. They are year 5.

DS is not really disturbed by it - am concerned for the other child.

Similar thing happened at my friends school as a result of what school found out was being said, etc etc the school decided that particular class had to have early sex education classes - lots horrified but school felt it necessary to talk to kids and explain early. Hate internet for stuff like this that our kids are getting expossed to and so losing their childhood even earlier.

Yes I would definitely talk to the class teacher about this. It needs to be investigated for that child's sake, and possibly for the sake of other children in the household.

Definitely speak to the class teacher - it's clearly a Child Protection issue.

I'm afraid unless the class teacher has heard the child anything you say is hearsay and can't formally go further than recording a concern. The school may suggest you report it yourself but even then you can only repeat what you have been told.

OK, maybe it's just me, but I don't think it's that big a deal. The kid was probably just curious and it's unlikely to be indicative of anything more sinister. 9/10 isn't that young at the end of the day and I think by then they should know all the birds and the bees. Whilst watching porn is not fantastic news, I don't think it's the death knell to his childhood.

cumbria81 you might not think it is a big deal but would be a child protection concern and reportable if disclosed directly by the child.

If the teacher can't accept your report, then have your child make a report to the teacher? (Silly rule) This needs reporting, imo.
