yr 1 sick days and catching up

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to 'catch up' if their child has sick days? I had thought in the early primary years it didn't matter if they missed days. They are still so young. My DS had most of last week off and now I'm being told by other mums that I'll have to teach him to tell the time and other things or else he'll never catch up. Is there a checklist of what they're supposed to have achieved by the end of each year? Where are such lists? Will he been seen to have failed if he has missed certain topics? It all seems madness.

Why don't you just ask the teacher? I can't believe he'll be that far behind, and if he is, surely the teacher will help him through. You could ask though to see if there's any topic areas you can help with at home.

Meant to say, if it's anything like our yr 1, they have attainment targets each half term, which the children and the parents all know about. Maybe your school's the same?

The same things come around again and again.Especially maths topics because lots of them don't'get it ' first time and most of the others quickly forget so it has to be covered many times to reinforce.
Don't worry

Thanks for that. I don't know of any halfterm attainment targets. But going over everything several times in a year makes sense. I sometimes wish I never spoke to mothers at the school gate. It makes me neurotic!
