I feel really gutted, DD's lovely reception teacher is leaving at Xmas and we have only just found out. As yet we don't know who her replacement will be, the school will have to advertise and recruit a new teacher to start Jan.

I'm just worried about how this will affect my DD. Especially since any new teacher will be new to the school and new to my DD and her class.

This happened to DS last year (Reception). The new teacher was FANTASTIC for him personally compared with the previous teacher. She really understood him. Not that First teacher was terrible, but second teacher was wonderful for him.

You can't do anything to change it so I would see it as an opportunity to help your DD deal with change positively. Hide your own feelings, be positive and don't make a big deal out of it.

Has the school not already started the recruitment process? Unless under special circumstances the teacher will have had to hand her notice in a while ago.

this happened in ds's class in yr1

his teacher went travelling to australia

I did feel a bit miffed that they hired a teacher who was obviously only going to be there for a term-she had job lined up in oz -so I assume it was well planned before sept.

Will probably be corrected by loads of teachers now.

ds was fine as he's fine iwth change but lots of the kids were quite unsettled by it

def don't make a big thing about it

this happened to DD last year, teacher was visibily pregnant in Sept and went on maternity leave in December.

The new teacher was dreadful and lots of parents complained and luckily school dealt with it but luckily next teacher was really amazing, and the school agreed she'd stay until end of term so even when teacher one came back from mat leave in early July she didn't get the class back.

If the TA's constant and lovely then the children should get through it okay. Assuming you get a good new teacher that is.

Thanks everyone, yes i'm hoping that we get a lovely teacher in after christmas.
There are two teaching assistants who job share, so they would remain the same and another HLTA who helps out in the afternoon.

Hulababy - the school haven't yet started the recruitment process!! but they have recently advertised for maternity cover for another reception teacher, so i'm hoping they may have a few candidates already. It just doesn't seem very long to find a teacher.

I suppose if i'm honest, i'm still not sure about the school anyway, but i felt that as it was our local school, we should send our children there. So this news is just more to add to my original worries.
