Anyone elses primary banned pork products in lunchboxes?

This seems totally barmy to me, maybe I am missing something. My neices primary has banned ham sandwiches so as not to offend Muslims.
My niece's favorite is ham, she has just gone back to school after having d+v for a couple of weeks, so sever that she was hospitalised and she has lost a bit of weight, so her mum, sent her in with ham sandwiches. DN had to eat them with the teachers and wasn't allowed to go out and play with the others! Earlier in the term she had sandwiches confiscated. Seems odd to me.

Surely political correctness gone mad!

Not banned at the state primary I work at. The school dinners also have pork on their meat option occasionally - there is always a veggie and sometimes a Halal option.

Seems very strange.

it is offensive, and its not like your neice is force-feeding the muslim children!

I would be complaining to school,governors, LEA, MP, newspapers, whoever it took.
PC gone mad. Iam all for HALAL, veggie options available if required for school meals but packed lunches should be what the child likes. Grr I'd be livid.
Hope dear niece on road to recovery.

I know there was a fuss recently about ham being unhealthy in children's lunchboxes.
But this seems odd - especially about her not being allowed to play with the others.

If it was a Islamic faith school I would understand, but normal state school. My brother is going up this week to discuss. I will report back...

Seems odd to me too, and my brothers ex isn't the most reliable person in the world, but she is convinced that this is the case..

Seems very unlikely - maybe the kids were learning about healthy eating and it was suggested they shouldn't have processed meats every day.

Seems odd to me, if its banned on health reasons (wasnt there a big hoohaa about it causing cancer if you eat processed meat or ssomething recently?) its out of my remit but as a muslim I wouldnt be offended by another child eating ham sandwiches. My dd already knows not to touch sausages/ham etc. if the other kids have it in lunchboxes and she is only 3 and at preschool. I would prefer it if in home ec classes my children could use vegetarian ham/sausages rather than touch pork but other people lunchboxes are none of my business.

Are you SURE it's to do with muslims??? There was a report out recently that hit the headlines and it recommended that children don't have ham sandwiches in their packed lunches. The gist of it was that people should only have 1 portion of processed meat a week because of the high levels of salt found in it.

I would have thought if ham has been banned it would be for health reasons...

sorry thats ridiculous

my dd goes to a very multicultural school so much so that due to the jewish and muslim pupils the school dinners are both halal and pork free. I totally understand and support this as it meansd they don't need to sorry about so many special diets/

however they have no rules to do with these meats in lunch boxes and if they did I would not be happy my daughters lunch my choice of sandwich!I adhere to and agree with the schools healthy eating policy but banning pork products in lunch boxes is unfair,
