Come and talk to me about schools in Horsham pretty please..

Any considered particularly good? Particularly bad? Particularly impossible to get into? Thinking of moving there when dc are Y3 and Y5.

There are quite a lot to go through! I don't know many but I would say that you should particularly avoid Arunside and North Holmes. There are probably others that aren't that good, but they are the main ones I know of.

The only one we have used is Holbrook and would definitely recommend it. All Saints (CofE) is also supposed to be good. These are both North Horsham, not sure about other areas.

Do you know what area you are thinking of moving to?

Thanks so much, all info very useful! Not sure which area, still trying to define it all. We are going down to look at Millais (we have all dds), so I guess living roughly in that area. I did speak to Holbrook, but they said that they had no places in either year group that we would need for the girls, and they didn't generally have much movement either, so they didn't think it worth bothering.

Know anything about Leechpool, or Heron Way?

don't live in Horsham but used to regularly appear at the county court there in financial (divorce) cases. Had one case where the wife was arguing that she had to be re-housed in a certain area (matrimonial home was being sold) as she HAD to be in the catchment area for Millais school for her DC so I would imagine it is a very good school.

There was a post a while back in Secondary Education, do a search on Millais and it should bring it up.

Yes, as far as secondary schools go, Millais is certainly the best option (imo!).

Leechpool is supposed to be a good school. It seems to have catchment from quite a few areas (some better than others). Have not heard anything bad about it.

Heron Way is supposed to be very good. It's a smaller school (or at least it used to be!)so less places, but I know people who have moved into the area as they wanted the school.

As far as Holbrook goes, it is very oversubscribed so places are hard to come by. However, although movement is not common, it does happen so putting your name down might be worth it. Last year, in dd's year 3 children left opening up spaces (which was immediately filled).

Thank you lockets. What was it like as a teenager? Was there enough for you to do? Did you end up traipsing to B'ton or similar? When I visited to check it out it seemed that there were things for 5-11's to do, but I wasn't sure about 11-18 group.

My DD goes to North Heath Lane and 2 children in her class were taken out of Leechpool and moved, (in reception), as their parents weren't happy with it.

I have heard avoid Leechpool and North Holmes. Apart from that most seem to be Ok.

As an ex Millais girl I would highly recommend it as a secondary school, although my niece and nephew go to Tanbridge and love it.

It's been a long time since I was a teenager so can't advise on that really. They probably just all go to the park or Crawley and get pissed tbh.
