Only a tiny bit of experience regarding this school.
My sons school in Leamington Spa plays them at various sports. He always finds the boys good to be with and says they do yummy 'team teas'!
Good luck finding out more.

Thanks, crunched.

Any more opinions, anyone?

Thank you for that, dilemma456. Do you know much about Blue Coat? I have looked around that school as well as Hallfield. I haven't looked at the others you listed - it's for DS we are looking, so EHS is out! I think I prefer mixed for primary age boys anyway. What have you heard about St Georges? I am not so keen on Priory as it's Catholic. Any thoughts / experiences are very welcome as it's a big decision we are making - planning to take DS out of his current local primary.

I didn't like St George's either when we looked around (twice), but I do know a child who was diagnosed with cancer whilst there and he was extremely well cared for and supported by the school.

We liked Blue Coat most- the atmosphere, facilities etc- but they had no spaces (and a ridiculously long waiting list), so we went with Hallfield. Yes- they are known locally as being pushy... but the Headmaster says he is not sure why!

How old is DS? Have you approached any of the schools to see if there are spaces in his year?

Am happy for you to CAT me if you want to know more.

Hi there!
THis is my first post on MN so let's hope I get it right...

My DD is at Priory, which although of Catholic roots, I would say is more christian. The children do morning and evening non-denominational prayers, but we have children from all different religions. We've had a wonderful experience at Priory. I like it because it's small enough to maintain it's warmth and sense of community. Academically it's not the most pushy of the Edgbaston schools, but it is certainly very rigorous. Class sizes are small enough that what your child learns is quite individualised to suit what the parent wants/the child's ability.

We've had a couple of boys move over from West House last yr because parents weren't happy with it...also another friend moved hers from there to Hallfield.

We looked at Blue Coats, which was our fave, but there were no places at the time. I do have a friend with one at Blue Coats and they're very happy with it. I think of all the schools it's the most rounded and ie. quite pushy academically but with a nice focus on all other activities.

I visited Hallfield, and hated it. But I do have firends with children there who are getting on very well. I personally felt it was too academically focused in a "cram for exams" sort of way and didn't feel it was the way for my DD. I'm big on teaching them how to think rather than teaching them things.

hth. Let me know if you want any further info.

Sorry for the LOOOOOOONG post, I don't know how to make short ones.
Vanessa

I completely agree dilemma456, every child is different and you have to decide where you think yours will thrive best. I think they're for the most part all very good schools, just depends on what's right for your child.

englishpatient · 10/09/2009 19:37

I am very grateful to all of you - people's personal experiences of the schools are so important to me in deciding - you only see what the school wants you to see when you visit! (Aren't I cynical.)

DS is nearly 7 and has just started yr 2. Hallfield and Blue Coat both said they have a place available if he starts in yr 3. I am leaning slightly towards Hallfield although I really liked both on the visits.

RedandGreenPlaid - would you be agreeable to emailing me if I give you the address on here? - I don't have a CAT subscription.

Does anyone know anything about Norfolk House? This isn't a school I'd heard of, but I will be finding out more "officially" now; however, it's the real life experience I am really interested in.

Hello,

I see this thread was created a long time ago. I am currently in the same situation. Which of the schools did you later consider?

I will appreciate your opinion as I am currently considering Hallfield or Bluecoat for my little one.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks
