What would happen if I did not apply for DD to go to school?

I am not actually thinking about it, but I am curious to know, given that I am scatter brained and keep forgetting to send of my MATB1 form to work as my brain in made of marshmallow.

But it got me thinking. What if I did not apply by Dec for DDs primary school place in Sept '10/Jan '11? Clearly they know she exists as they have just sent me some info on how to apply and when by.

Would she just be allocated the closest place with a space? Would she not be registered at all? Would they know? What would they do if she did not go to school at all?

This is why I think that HEers should have to register Tinkerbelle! My understanding is that if you deregister you are followed up but if you never register in the first place you slip through the net and you could in fact lock in a cellar!! No one even has the exact number for HE. It is best never to assume anything over education-always chase up.
(Lovely to have someone in agreement Clary! I have come to think that seeker's mother was a sensible woman-not unlike my mother!!)

Our LEA has never contacted us in relation to schools. We were never sent any information about how to apply, etc. DD is now almost 10. She goes to an independent school in another borough. No idea if our borough would know this, but I don't think they care......or even know she exists??

your dd doesnt have to be in school unitl the term after she is five (legally) BUT that would mean her going into year 1 in the nearest school which had a place.

If you want to have a choice (albeit poss ltd by availability) then you need to apply for a recption place.

Not sure if it's co-incidence but everyone in my postnatal group were missed when the papers were sent out. Possibly due to August births and school hols but don't see why as admissions open all year.
