The student support centre: Anyone used them/heard of them?

Had a visit today from them, it seems like a good system, small bitesize chunks that will not turn off my ds.

Just wondered if anyone on here uses them?

I've only heard that they are expensive and that schools are paid to hand out the literature...

Anyone else? He told me they are cheaper than Kumon.

Been several threads about it on here. They sound like a bunch of rip-off artists tbh. Will see if I can dredge up the threads.

I don't know anything about them but they acquire a cloak of respectability coming through schools. Although the schools say they don't endorse them there's no denying the positive association.

we had a letter about them from school recently and I was put off from the start by the pressure to send back the reply slip with your details even if you weren't interested. I had a look at the website and actually was quite impressed by it but didn't reply in the end as there wasn't anything that my DCs really needed extra tuition for but I am very keen to hear what others have to say in case I need it in the future.

It is really expensive Goldrock. You are signing up to paying £1000s for a few videos and are tied into a contract for years.
They will send round a salesman who will "test" your child and give you a hardsell.

You would be far better off finding a good tutor, it would be cheaper in the long run and a more personal service.

thanks bruffin - the only thing 2 of my DCs struggle with is spelling and looking at their website it didn't seem like they offered a tailored service so I think you're right, if it continues to be a problem I would look at a tutor.

My DS is dyslexic and has problems with spelling. I bought Stareway to Spelling but school had the same idea and ended up doing the scheme with him.

It's quite intensive but it did help.

ooh, thanks again I will definitely consider that. No dyslexia but I'm happy to try it (out of stock at the mo sadly)
