My May born dd is reading red level 9 books. Does anyone know if thats good or bad. When I was in class the other day there seems to be alot of levels above this one.

I have no idea what scheme it is. I think they use different schemes.

I would be happy aswell except she is going into a combined year 1/ 2 class with children who I believe are doing much better. We do alot of reading at home which she enjoys. I think we will be doing summner Reading Challenge at the Library. I guess librarian will be able to help me choose suitable books

redskyatnight on the reading strand of the EYFS profile there isn't any requirements for blending those are all contained in the linking sounds to letters strand.

The Reading ELGs are 4-8

1 Is developing an interest in books

2 Knows that print conveys meaning

3 Recognises a few familiar words

4 Knows that, in English, print is read from left to right and top to bottom

5 Shows an understanding of the elements of stories such as main character, sequence of events and openings

6 Reads a range of familiar and common words and simple sentences independently

7 Retells narratives in the correct sequence, drawing on language patterns of stories

8 Shows an understanding of how information can be found in non-fiction texts to answer questions about where, who, why and how

9 The child has achieved all the early leaning goals for reading. In addition, the child reads books of own choice with some fluency and accuracy
