Home produced veg box - good idea or horribly naff end of year present for teachers?

Funds tight atm, but I do have a reasonably abundant veg plot, so was thinking about getting DCs to decorate some boxes (prob photocopier paper boxes pinched from work) and making up small veg boxes for the teachers and TA's

I could include, peas, lettuce, french beans, spinach, radish, courgettes and a mixture of herbs. Dcs have also helped grow most of it.

So, is it a good thoughtful idea, or does it smack of Mummy trying too hard?

i think that is lovely idea, very original. and would make a great change from the choc and candles they normally get.

My dad sent me in with a plastic bottle of home made beer once. I wanted to die!! Poor teacher. I've never forgotten this.

Could you not paint a picture/decorate a cup/write a nice poem?

I would love something like that. Just one point though - make sure they aren't going away that eveningnext day or two, and so not be able to take advantage of your lovely gift...

I'd love to receive a gift like that. Makes a change from xome of the usual tat!!

I once was given a still-warm egg from a pupil's chicken. It was a great present!

I think it is an absolutely lovely idea. (I am not a teacher though). I am sure that if one of the staff was about to go away then they could pass the veg on to someone who could use it. That's what I would do.

dd always makes home made crackers at Christmas for the teachers etc. (not much use as an idea this time of year though) We put in usually something like a thornton's small choc bar and a luxury hand cream/bath gel (sanctuary or similar).

I love it, and I can think of several other members of staff who would too. And three who would shudder and give it to me instead.

One of my pupils did this last year and I was delighted.
Can I just say teachers do not expect presents and if funds are tight don't feel you have to buy something.
I would be mortified if I thought someone was spending money they couldnt afford on me.
A card with a thank you note in it is more than enough.

I am a teacher and would love this kind of present. I also think, if the teachers/TAs in question can't use it then it would be easily passed on.

And I always welcome any kind of gift - am very grateful for the compliment - but do tend to pass many gifts on anyway - flowers, plants, chocolates, toiletries.

I would love it, my pupils often bring me in fruit/ veg from their gardens. I have even been offered fresh fish!

No way Bigchris.
Why should I share all the lovely things I get from nice people in recognition of my efforts with some of the staff who are the sort that MNs moan about?
All the grumpy and horrible ones? Let them gather their own rewards, be that slugs and snails and puppydog tails.

I did this for ds's teacher a couple of years ago. (Although it was a Riverford box - not home grown!)

The teacher RAVED about it. She actually wrote us a letter in the holidays to say it was the best present she'd ever received. She thanked me again when she saw me at the shops some months later.

So I would say two thumbs up to your idea, and double thumbs up to it being your own produce.

i normally get 6 or 7 little gifts out of my class of 20 ish so no, not everyone does it and I certainly don't expect it.

I know its been said lots but a thankyou (verbal or written) is what is really appreciated
