Advice about writing to teacher? Any teachers about, or anyone else with an opinion?

I have been very very happy with my DDs progress at school this year, and I feel that this is in a large part due to her excellent teacher, who has done a brilliant job of motivating and interesting the class, and allowing them to progress.

I was thinking that I would like to write to the teacher, to thank her and let her know how happy I am with how things have been for my DD this year. (Obviously I could, and have in the past, tell her verbally how pleased I am, but I was thinking it might be nice for her to have something 'in writing, I know that in my job I would appreciate that)

Does this sound like a good idea? Is that the kind of thing that most teachers would like, or could it seem interfering?

At the end of the year, many children take in little gifts and cards for their teacher at my ds school. I have sometimes added a card of my own when I have felt perticularly strongly about a great teacher and have always had the impression that the teacher really appreciates it.

So no, not interfering at all, especially in the context of an eand of year 'thank you'.

I think it's a lovely idea! We're always too ready to write letters when it's something bad, why not for when someone deserves praise?
(I'm toying with the idea of doing the same, dd has just finished 3 yrs of nursery with a fantastic teacher)

When I was a teacher, parents sometimes included a couple of lines to the effect you are talking about in the end of year thank you card.

You are right, it is a boost to one's confidence in one's abilities.

Brilliant idea. Send a copy to the Head and the Chair of Governors as well.

It is a lovely idea. I know I would appreciate it from any of the parents of my students.

You could also send a copyto the head to let them know what a fab staff member they have too - heads often only ever see the complaints so a positive is always nice.

Would that be OK? I did think about sending a copy to the head, but I wondered if that really would be too interfereing?

I think it's a lovely idea. I've been teaching for 12 years now and have a special box where I keep all the nice letters from parents. I re-read them last week when I was in the middle of "report-writing-hell" and it gave me just the boost I needed.

It's a great idea to send a note to the Headteacher too.

Absolutely send it to the Head - the teacher might find it hard to show him or her, but that way it stays on her file.

I would love that and even though I've taught for 15 years, I would keep it!

I have written to my son's teacher twice with positive comments. The first was in a letter that contained information, I just added it on. The second time was in response to his report.
I'm also a teacher so I know this kind of thing is very much appreciated - much more so than any gift.

I think it is a lovely idea and agree you should send it via the head. I have had one today and although it made me glow inside I did not show anyone when maybe I should have done.

I've kept all the cards that students have sent me with nice things written in. Lasts much longer than chocolates.
