TEACHERS - FAB end of term idea - Class Gazette/Yearbook

Hi,

I posted this last year - it was something my DTDs came home with. It was too late for the teachers to organise but lots said that they would have to remember for this year. Well I am helping you to remember. I hope someone is interested.

DTDs each bought home a copy of the "Class Gazette". It was kind of like a yearbook which the pupils had written themselves (Yr1).
The teacher had selected approx 15 events from teh year. School trips, plays, significant topics, guests, sports day, Christmas party...
Each page of the yearbook was a different event.
Each page was made by 2 pupils.
Each pupil had written a short paragraph or 2 and drawn a picture about that event.

The whole lot was photocopied and distributed to the class as the "Gazette". It was a fabulous memento of the year.

Could easily be adapted to suit the year-group for any primary year-group.

I hope that some of the MN teachers can make their parents weep the way I did at such a fabulous memento

I helped the Year 6 class in our school do one of these for about five years running. You wouldn't believe what hard work it is to organise and how time consuming. Not something to undertake lightly, but certainly a fabulous memento - at least I hope the parents thought so.

I guess that you can but in varying levels of effort. And whilst I don't want to understate the effort - ours was very simple in format - and I can see how you could really polish it if you wanted to.

Each page was A4. The children had written/drawn on their own smaller pieced of paper which were just photocopied to per page. The booklet was help together with a single staple in the corner. It wasn't particularly formal.

I suspect that it probably took around 1/2-1 day for the children (Yr1) to write their piece and draw their picture. As I say they only wrote 1-2 very short paragraphs each. I guess it would have taken the teacher maybe 2-3hrs at most to stick the childrens work onto a bigger sheet and then photocopy it 30 times and staple it together.

I guess it would have taken a fair bit of time though to think of the 15 "events" which they want to cover.

As ours were older children they did them on the computer using Microsoft Publisher. The difficulty was getting them to focus on what they wanted to include and to actually plan how they were organising and sharing it out between them. I very much wanted it to be 'their magazine'. But it does take more time than you would actually think.
