Anyone moved perfectly happy children, from a perfectly good school for childcare reasons ?

The infant department is a bit crap but juniors is great.
DC1 is in Year 5 in September, has very few friends, but not unhappy about it, DC2 more sociable but would see those kids at Rainbows, DC3 has not settled in reception, but she will iyswim but has a horrible shouty teacher next year.
There is no before or after school provision at all, we've tried the nanny thing and had awful experiences.
Am considering moving them to the local (unknown private school) which DC1 would go to if we didn't get out first choice of secondary school anyway.

Are these dcs hopeful IVF results or actually existing?

Some prep schools offer sibling discounts others don't. Should be in the information pack they will have given you. None that I know of will give a free place unless you get a scholarship and bursary.

Oh no they very much exist at age 8, 6 and 4.
Lots of schools seem to be bending over backwards to offer discounts and for some reason this one doesn't or they aren't advertising the fact. I guess a phone call to the bursar is the first step. And maybe moving them in stages until hubby is working again.

No scholarships that I know of at prep school age. Usually they are available from secondary school age. Depending on the school you may also find that there is a waiting list.

Should add that bursaries, such as they are, are being offered to keep existing children at school in these times not for new ones.

KathyBrown · 22/05/2009 12:58

No Mollie that's not what I'm finding at all generally that the schools I don't want due to loctaion are falling over themselves to offer discounts, always the way though I guess.
There's no waiting list.

My dcs school ofer a 5% discount for first sibling and I think 10% for second.

They do burseries for all children that pass the standard and have income below a certain level, and they have also just started scholrships at age 7 - entry into year 3 - but they are relatively small amounts (approx 8% of full fees) as any scolarships are quite rare at that age, plus the deadline has long passed, but if your 6 year old is going into Year 2 in september, (s)he would be eligible (but then there is a £200 'acceptance' fee payable by end Jan for that Sept (taken off first term's fees).

Maybe take your dcs there to an Open Day or taster day - if the school like them they may have more chance, and anything you can do to help eg PA / talks etc will show willing and is often seen as an important part of buying into the whole ethos of the school (not to mention good fun too).

Whiskers, I have spent today on the telephone negotiating and you'd be amazed what deals schools are offering if you were joining the school today, I guess they have lost a lot of customers because we've been offered 3 for 2, 10% off all three and 10% off the 2nd and 12.5% off the 3rd. A term free for all three and a £250 uniform voucher.
I'm aiming to get 3 for 2 at the school I want so fingers crossed.

lol I guess I am at the wrong time in the chain then as mine are already there!

Hope you get what you need - I don't think I would have the guts to ask for 2 for 3!
