We've jsut been given just under 3 weeks notice - AIBU to think this is a bit short?

That is a bit short notice. We had a recent change with about 6 weeks to go and had lots of apologies.

Yes agree with you. We were given a yearplanner before summerholidays for year 08-09 which has all inset days on it.

We are told at the start of the school year of two days in Juane - basically we get a long weekend to break up the incredibly long summer term. Agree 3 weeks is too short.

We organise Staff training now for next year so dates are set before children come back in September. Good for the parents but sometimes a pain for staff as sometimes excellent conferences are announced mid school year and we aren't able to attend as a whole staff.

we were given term dates for 2009/2010 by mistake earlier this year and it had them all on then

We are given the next years holiday and inset dates every july

So this july we will get all the dates for 09/10

The school where I am a governor gave us a yearplanner before summerholidays for year 08-09 which has all inset days on it. However, my son's infant school gives us a few weeks/couple of months. The first day in September is always an INSET day.

Im fairly sure you are meant to be given a terms notice. I remember my head trying ( and succeeding!) to squeeze one in at the last minute and hoping the parents wouldnt complain as ' we are maent to give a terms notice' - thats a new term/ 6 weeks/ not an old term. Ds1 starts school in sept and Im dreading this sort of thing to be honest.

We too get all the dates for the following academic year in July. They are almost always tagged on to the start or end of a term.

I think you are likely to get the dates by September of that year at the latest, however at my school, where I teach, and my children attend, we had to announce a last minute training day two weeks ago for the first week in June, so almost the same notice as you were given, and the reason being is that the school is being used as a polling station on 4th June, so the school has to be closed to the station. Our Head only found out about it on the same day she sent out the notice to the parents, so sometimes it is simply unavoidable!
